I am just real lazy and couldn't get motivated this winter to build anything. I have a NEW Phil Thomas SS 21 hull that I bought last summer still sitting in the corner. I bought the SC hull in October and was going to build it over the winter and it just never happened.
This year I am going to do things a bit differently than years past. Instead of spending a ton of money to sport boat I am going to go in the other direction. Cheaper cells, and ESC's for me. I am going to stick with Neu motors though ......until I find a cheap motor that compares....if ever. I am planning to use a Swordfish 240 ESC in this hull with some Turnigy packs.
I'll be interested to see how it goes as I'm still trying to work out the bugs since switching to the same setup. I think I may have figured it out but I'll find out in the a.m.
I don't know what everyone's beef is with the turbine hatch. I personally think it's awesome. I like the fact that it is different. Just a little modding to make it water tight is all.
I had bad results when I didn't load the motor enough. Didn't try any 3 bladers, but under 52 mm was a dramatic speed loss and no less heat. This motor will spin big props!
Yeah the Y winds in general Love big props. I was running a 637 in my Sport 20 hull using a Hacker 7XL motor and it ran pretty fast. I then switched to a Neu 1515 1Y and with the same prop lost at least 10mph and it ran hotter. I scratched my head for a while and after talking with Brian Baas he told me that I need a throw a bigger prop on it to properly load the motor. The hull is insane with a 645 prop and still runs pretty cool. I would have never even considered a 45mm prop on the sport 20 but the Neu motor loves it. I imagine the 1527 1Y will need a nice size prop to get it going, I was running up to a 450 with my 1527 1.5D so I wouldn't be suprised to see a 460 or a 457/3 prop for the 1Y. All the cats I have owned in the past loved 3 blade props so I will be trying them on this hull as well.
As far as the hatch goes, I just don't think it looks right on a cat but to each his own. I have plans to buy the clasic hatch and cut it up and made something more "Cat like".
Hi Ray, the build looks nice. I bet the paintwork will turn out exceptional as usual! BTW, I see that you're set on the 1527/1Y. Do you plan on using the 1527/1.5D for this hull? I've been dragging my feet on building several projects, including this one, but I do have a 1527/1.5D thought it would be nice to use for 6S2P.
No I sold my last 1.5D, fast motors but I think the 1Y will be almost as fast and swing a larger prop at the same time as keeping the amps lower. I wouldn't mind this hull in the mid 50's with a little bit of run time. I seem to keep the same pattern with all my hulls, push them as hard as they will go for a very short time. I am trying to change my ways so selling my HOT motors is the only way I will do that. I am actually going to try one of those 1717 Neu/Castle motors in my Phil Thomas SS45 hull and another Ice 200 controller IF this one in the Sprint does the job.
BTW the 1527 1.5D motor in my 36" Hydro with 6s2p was a very fast setup, just make sure you have a controller that can handle the amps. That setup ate my Hydra 180HV in a very short time.
