    Sprint Cat .40 Winter build

Ok I plan to build this cat over the winter months but I figured I would start the thread now. So far all I really did was make up a motor mount for my 1527 1Y and I cut about a inch off the turbine cowl that I plan to glass closed so the hatch can be easily taped down. I borrowed a Stuffing tube block from a friend before I bought one and I am glad I did. The tunnel has a Vee to it and the stuffing tube block is flat so it may not be the best idea. I always liked the clean look of the block but I may end up going the convertional route on this hull.

On a side note I wasn't really pleased with Aeromarine's quality on this hull. The glass work is good and the hull is really stiff and well made but the gel coat is horrible, its dull and even gray in some spots. I will def have to paint this hull once it is ready to go but I was suprised to see such bad gel coat quality considering the last few Chinese hulls I bought looked Beautiful compared to AM's.

Here is a list of what I will be using in the hull
    Neu 1527 1Y motor
    Hyperion 6s4200 G3 35C cells
    Shulze 24.150 ESC
Speedmaster .40 size rudder and Extended Strut

Back of turbine glassed in for easy tape down

Did you get one of the newer ones with the taped seams and joined with the 3M stuff?

Lose the 'Butch Block', it isn't needed and takes up space better used by the cells. Use an O-ring and JB Weld instead. We don't have the vibration of the gas and nitro boats so we don't need massive hardware to secure the stuffing tube to the hull.

The "new ones" mentioned above are being made especially for one retailer, not for general sale. And you can't get that feature on the smaller cats and hydros - I asked Remy and he said that they couldn't get the tape on the seams due to insufficient room inside the smaller hulls. The big gas-sized hulls have enough room for this feature.

Yeah I figured it was only for the gas hulls.

Jay I almost forgot about the Oring and JB weld trick and will def try it on this hull.
I just got done glassing in the turbine, need one more coat of glass tomorrow and the hatch mods should be done.

I recently bought 2 Aeromarine hulls and experienced the same.

The glass work seems ok but the finishing gelcoat was horrible. There were several scratches and white patches on the yellow and blue hulls. Both the openings in the hull and cowl were not cut straight and there was still some guiding lines drawn by pensils.....The job look pretty amateurish. The seams are also joined by a brown glue that looks like dry mud and is pretty inaesthetic.....

It was very hard to justify why the Aeromarine cost 3 times the chinese hull I have when the latter hull gelcoat finish was better......

              Good luck in your build.

Yeah I haven't purchsed a AM hull in years and my guess is that they are using the same molds for too long. My buddy used to lay up hulls and showed me how a new mold would produce a much better looking boat. If I wasn't planning to hack up the hatch anyway and had no reason to paint it I would be a little upset but since I did some glass work and need to paint the hull anyway its not really a big deal for me.

I am talking about the Delta force hulls and the chinese knock off's. They both have very nice glass and gel coat work.

I am surprised at the dull finish also

I think mine came from fine design and its as shiny as a new nickle

Looks nice. Did seeing some off the others on here give you the inpiration to get her going?
The Sprintcat is definately my favorite boat of the ones I've built.
