    Tadpole 10" Micro Rigger

I went back to the drawing board (no pun intended) and completely re designed my original sketch of the micro rigger I am planning to make.

I decided to start a new thread to discuss the design of this particular rigger, while I would like to keep the other thread open to discussions about hardware and power systems for economic micro sized riggers.

So here it is! (critique accepted) (Sorry for the poor lettering)

This tub design will hopefully provide additional lift due to it's undercambered airfoil shape, and the sponsons were lengthened to allow proper mounting to the tub without sacrificing component placement. The motor was moved to the front of the tub so that the driveshaft and sponson bottoms could have the same angle of attack without the sponson angle being too excessive. The triangle above the transom is a wedge of faom meant to support the mounting of the micro rudder OSE sells.

I like the name and concept of the motor in the nose. What size prop do you plan to use?

        Thanks!

As discussed in the other thread, we decided that the graupner 26mm prop that fits onto a 2mm threaded shaft would be best. Part number grp-2318.26; you can find it on the OSE site.

I have a 10g outrunner in a small rigger with a 2S pack of TP Pro Lite V2 480mah the lil thing huals its great fun in smaller ponds. I built it just for the pond near my home. = ) I used a cut down octura X427. The 10g has a 2mm axle. I ran the boats drive line straight into the motor and grubed it down with the front bells grub screw. I wish someone made metal props with 2mm hubs.

There's probably a large amount of metal props for 2mm shafts, your just lookingin the wrong place.

Try looking for some eco props from european/asian manufacturers.

With a 10in rigger this sort of gear is what I have on hand. The 240mah battery can provide 5amps tops the 480 mah battery can handle 12amps and bursts to 20amps. These 10g motors stock are 2kv. 2S with a cut down x427 to x423 or
x622.. surface drive. 2mm drive direct thru the motor bearings. I actually have my motor faceing forward in the rigger, so the drive line went through the back end of the motor. The magnets act like a thrust bearing.

Also FYI for the 10in rigger with all the gear the way I have mine layed out covers 5in of tub length. A 10in rigger is very possible. How are you coming along with the design Jon?

Yes understand that. My son is in his first yr of college and is trying to finish his 14ft. 5hp(briggs) shallow V hual. Not alot of free time on a full load. Here is the over all look of the 10g outrunner rigger platform my idea was no turn fins, wide stance for good left right stearing in the small pond. It's very light on the water and gets on top with lil power. Im working on getting vid.

This is where the rigger balances ready to run with 2S Etec 240's and with the 2S TP V2 480's another half inch forward. There is enough motor room for about 120w system. Im clicking along with 25w to 35w. And will so for while longer want to explore the 10g outrunner power range. I have spares to play with diffrent winds on 2S and 3S. I like the strength to weight ratio with thin ply and micro size riggers.

So, if I did sell these boats, would you guys be interested in buying them with the propshaft and stuffing tube? So all you would add are the power electronics and radio gear.

I am planning on making some ply templates and routing out little areas of the fiberglassed foam tub to put the gear in. So the tub won't be hollow, and therefore much stronger (with built in flotation). I'm thinking a 1/16" ply motor mount would be in order.
