More than likely as I only made minor adjustments from the first run - I lowered the stinger a tad bit and adjusted the turn fins to no avail.

Chuck, that is a bummer. I do like the stickers, but no SPANISH and for this to happen on Boxing Day you have my regrets.
You are the prop man but try an X442..next time.
What info did the data logger record? It is interesting the ESC failed even with the extra caps.
You might want to angle the turn fins towards to the transom, if you have not already done so

4s2p or 8s? 1515/1y is a 4s motor. I run it in a Hydro and started with a 445. I think you are pulling way to many amps. I am assuming 4s. What is that Etti Rated at?

You are pulling over 150 amps with that set-up. The Elobo Hulls get skid-ish in the turns. Try Backing off entering the turn and punching it 2/3rds the way through. I ran those hulls to death on 8cells (nicads) Back in the day. Elobo 2.

Even ran them in N1 mono. Fun hulls back in the day. Love flat smooth water.

When I do things I go all out, the ESC is charcoal but the added caps didn't go pop, and besides the flotation melting all else looks to be good except for major stink. Now the cleanup begins ...

Douggie: I didn't have the data logger in it this time and maybe lucky it wasn't - you are right I probably should have started with a smaller prop but I have used this one before on much lower amp ESC's with no problems. I think the hop in the turns did the damage.

vvviivvv: I made the 2-1 connectors and got the idea from SimonO (he has a how to) but I used 8 awg wire instead of brass tube.

photohoward1: Yes it's 4S2P and the Etti was rated at 150 amps - I think I may go with a himodel 200 until I get this boat figured as I seem to have an extra cooling plate available.

:) good choice chuck. Ive had no problems with them , ive ran about 10-15 of them and all smokes have been my fault, water or stupid propping... I epoxy mine and reshrink w/ heatsink an fan ontop but i usually do this due to hott set ups. Youll love them, cant beat the price either!

Well I got a couple of HiModel 200's in and started working on one of them. I cut off the shrink wrap and removed the aluminum heat exchanger. I then covered what I could get at with epoxy (except for the fets) and attached the cooling plate from the etti. I have new shrink on order and when I get that in place I will solder on the 5.5 bullets.

Chuck, the burnt esc was most definantly due to the voltage spikes!!! one after another. i just watched the vid and the whole time i was thinking "OUCH" and after running two el lobo 4's and a 2 i know these hulls better than any others ive had. they were hard to set up ! like someone said, put your turn fins at a 90 deg. and use big ones. i think these hulls being such a shallow v its really hard to set up for turns due to not much rail bite. i also doubled up on larger trim tabs for plane, and cornering. try putting your cg back a little as well as i found in turns having the cg forward caused alot of hopping out as well, but too far back does it too..in fact i made a spacer about 1'' thick to put the rudder and prop a little farther back and put on a larger rudder ( fatter), heres a few pics of my final set up on some of the el lobos. hope it helps!.

Thanks for the info Josh I will put the turn fins straight down and and move the CG back a bit. Do you remember where the CG was? Here is the Himodel 200 w/ added cooling plate and caps.

i love the esc mods!!! hows your esc temps? is she performing like i siad? try it out and see the diference .. i put on a fatter rudder and she liked it. aslo just do one mod/adj. at a time so you know what the problem /fix was. but in this case without seeing her in person and watching her run in person its just guess work.. kinda time consuming but its how i learned. you have to remember these guys dont turn like the deep -v's either. but you can eliminate most of the hopping. i had my turn fins deeper as well. actually i started w/ smaller ones than whats shown in the pic. yours are perfect size.try putting your (outer) tabs down a bit , like 1/8'' and move up to level from there if need be. take the tools to the pond and do one little mod at a time. play w/ your cg, i think i started at 33% and went from there i think i went back to 30% not much .. let me know and video !!!
