Great info I will keep that in mind for sure.

I realize you guys (or most of you at least) don't have much aeronautical experience... But the thing is with these 'wings" of yours, you have to make sure that you aren't giving them too much angle. Otherwise, they'll stall. Then your not getting as much downforce, simply a lot of drag.
Make sure your trailing edges are sharp and start with small angles (~10*) and slowly increase until you find a sweet spot.
A large wing with a proper airfoil and a very slight angle is going to have much less drag than those smal stubby things with large angles.
I agree, watch the angle. Too much and you will creat a lot of drag. I know your not worried about slowing the boat down, but if you give to much drag above the centerline of the prop it will want to drag the nose back over the prop. Then once the AOA increases, it flies.
ended up dropping the Aero degree and went with Mechanical. Still had some interesting experiments.
Good luck, boat looks great. Can't believe the power of these things!

Clearly some traditional aerodynamics apply to boats and everyone's input is welcome. We all can learn from each other. But I am still amazed at how many "aero guys" have little or no grasp of WIG, etc.

Yes, the angles above are very similar to those found on flaps. In the first pictures, the 'flap' has a body in front of it directing airflow. This will help to keep the air from separating at the leading edge of the surface, as in case number 2 tunnel).
Ground effect is working opposite of the way these wings are lifting though.... Here, ground effect would be detrimental to making downforce as the air would be more likely to separate from the surface (stall).
An undercambered airfoil would probably do great in this application, maybe an AG-04 airfoil? I'm sure you guys would be capable of cutting ply templates out and hotwire cutting some short little wings, then fiberglassing them.Comment

I have the same boat and the same problem. I ended up lowering the strut and mooving the hull balance point further forward.
Its a different boat all together now and its getting there.
I set it up with a 1527/1y and shultz 40/160. We run only 6s 1P. Poly 5000 30c. Octura x450 is good to start with but she flys with X452 and X455.
If you look at the boats underside you can see it does trap a lot of air underneath the hull and does behave quite different when compared to the 21 hull.
It will be interesting to see how the wings go.Comment

Raydee- not sure how long you want to wait, but Castle's new ICE HV160 is going to be an absolute beast, with Data logging built in. there will be a Hydra software release for it. It's scheduled to come out soon so it may be something to look forward to.My prop hasn't been wet in a while.Comment

I am all for the ICE ESC's, I have two of them already and they seem to be great. As long as it will work with the pistol radio I will be down.Team Liquid DashComment
