I just can't grasp the idea that the government will run health care any better. Hell in Boston they cant even pave a road without cost overruns and delays.
This is a catch 22. If you deregulate the industry, they run wild like the banks did and healthcare is. If regulation or government intervention, then we risk bureacracy. Maybe, the government can do this with a $25 co-pay to cut down on abuse? Or for the private sector, set a cap on policy premiums and regulation on policy procedures, denial of claims, and rescission. Hold Medical institutions as well as doctors financially responsible for gross Malpractice. Consolidation of billing practices (No separate billing for resident doctors, anesthesiologists, x-rays etc) and set standard billing rates. Upon recommendation of two or more Doctors, claims cannot be denied. No patient can be turned away from treatment regardless of financial or insurance status; but must meet certain requirements. A government pool can be setup to offset these costs. Any fraudulent abuse from either a patient, Medical instution, or insurance company can result in criminal, and/or civil charges. Just some of my ideas.

Steven, they won't... it'll be a disaster... but they don't have to... at least not in the short term...
All they "need" to do is promise it, then deliver something called it, and the new round of Kool-aide will be distributed...
Medicare
Medicaide
Social Security
The VA
National Parks
Fanny/Freddie
Hell... even the Military...
NONE of these are run with any efficiency or in a sustainable manner... But they sure sound good...

They will not run it better, but you will have the operations done and not controlled by an insurrance company. Plus a lot of old folks who do not have the private system will be standing in line with you and are possibly in more need.
As an aside my brother was the CFO for the largest private insurrer in the UK. Yes the procedures at private clinics were more expedient, that was all
People keep saying that the Government cannot do it properly or efficiently.
Medicare claims to cost is about 2% to perhaps 8%. Private insurance companies run 20% to 25%.
Seems that Medicare is doing an OK job.
And I rarely hear people complain about all the other socialized services they are forced to suffer with by the government. Things like socialized military and socialized police and fire protection.
So it seems there are some things that people are fine with the government doing, but healthcare is not one of them. That strikes me as contradictory.

Don't hit them so hard, Bill. I agree, lets do away with these socialist programs the first one that needs to go is social security, Where else you can put in 1 dollar and get back four? then get sick while putting in your 1 dollar and get medicaid and medicare to foot the bill. I tell you, those "dayum" socialist , We've also paid for their primary schooling now they want "US" to pay for their secondary education also...

They are their OWN words, dude... Guess it's only concerning to those of us who think for themselves...
Very ODD that people seem to have a problem with big businesses having a monopoly, but they are perfectly willing to turn over their LIFE decisions to the Government which is also aiming to obtain one...
Sad....
Clearly being lied to, and yet the Kool-aide remains fully effective...
