I cup props using a cuping anvil or some times at the pond pliers with a ball bearing welded to one side, bar cut is to notch the trailing edge against the hub to help a prop unload and spin up. Works very well when you do not want to back cut because of the reduced lift but need to unload it some.
Google it and there is a wealth of info out there

A bar cut will also let you add quite a bit of pitch to a prop that would otherwise be hard to do as it gets closer to the hub.

A CMM machine will accurately measure the pitch/cup but is quite expensive so a good pitch gauge is needed.
I started with a Hughey pitch gauge but have since made my own that uses a dial indicator. Here is an example of one.

I got to run my new Seaducer this arvo, sorry no vid but what a boat!! A little strut tweaking had her running hard and fast and I swear it gets quicker through the turns!!! Started at 33% ended up at 27% with a very slight downward angle on the strut to keep her running true. What a great hull better than a DF in my opinion and very fast

Very nice work Andy. How fast is very fast? Where was your gps? We want video and gps readings.

I am tired of reading all this "gps speed is not an accurate speed" crap out there. It is more accurate than any car speedometer. I do not care if it is a bees dick inaccurate. Not all of us have the luxury of a big Bank account to fly to SAW events to check the speed of our boats. If any well off dead head thinks my DF does not do 72 mph then let him send me a plane ticket to his SAW event and he will see my gps is not that far out. If my gps tells me the speed is 72 mph, and it is really 71 mph or 73 mph, what do I care? A gps is well within the ball park. To all you "gps is not accurate" freaks out there... WHO CARES. There I have had my rant and I feel better.

there is a definite difference between a gps and a s.a.w speed as the gps will just record the top speed it hits for a few seconds.
but that being said if your chasing your own top speed then a gps is very accurate
and the best way to see if we have improved or not on our setup.
if we hit a certain speed using gps there is no denying we have got that speed

I hate to admit it Andy, that is damn good workmansip after 12 beers and 1/2 a bottle of single malt.
Nice looking boat for a poofter.

Chuck I thought you might like to see a pic of Andy's new Raptor Rigger. He has been converted...

He did his best to get a matching quilt but it also shows some of his gay tendencies with those flowers on it I think. Andy lose the flowers from that quilt or you will have to move to Sydney. Maybe it really is Broke Back Hill.

I think you are on to something there Chuck. I had heard he went to Melbourne to watch St Kilda do some pre-season training.
