Douggie you can rest easy tonight in the knowledge of the fact that the Turnigy 180 amp marine esc works great. As you know my Eagle Tree data logger will not read past 180 amps and all my boats pull more than that. I only did SAW runs but there were 6 of those. ie. 6 up the lake and 6 back down the lake, so 12 runs in total, depending on what school you went to. I know one trip to the lake does not make a good speed controller but I think there is always going to be room in my kit bag for one of these babies. I am going to leave in in my DF 33 and test it more next time I get a break.
I am left with a warm and fuzzy feeling after my experience with the Turnigy 180 amp esc.

Well guys I tested my little Xzess 2 rigger on a 2s Lipo this morning. Results below...

        2s Elite 35C 5000, Neu 1515 0.5y, Octura/andym X642 = 65.9kph or 40.95 mph

I know I can improve on that with a bigger prop and removing the turn fin and a couple of other more secret tricks learned from Andy. I am happy with the results so far both on 2s and 3s.
I can say without a doubt that removing the winglets has stopped the boat blowing over and I will be altering the AoA in the coming weeks and should see more speed on both batteries.
Thanks to all of you for your help and encouragement. FE boating is going to add years to my life and has already improved my sex life

Chuck thanks for the 2s Lipo

Douggie the big change I made was getting the maximum throttle position set properly. Dr Wayne was a big help and I figured it out how to set it. He is sending the instructions to me later but going on the terminal velocity of the boat I am on the mark. 61 mph on 4s in a DF 33 is hauling the mail.
The other parameters are set as such...
          1.Forward only
          2. Lipo Cell Auto Calculate
          3. No low voltage protection but I will try it at 3.2 volts per cell next time
          4. Timing is at 15 degrees for the Y motor

So long as the water is calm.. with no additional loading once at WOT .. try this
Set Throttle max at 100% .. calibrate esc.
mod the end point to 105%.. go for a run.

I did type the technical reasons behind this, but the entry window cut me off at 6000 characters ..

try it, you may like it .

Ahh. I thought I was the only one that knew that trick. I will try it next time.

Dr W is there any chance of getting the schematic diagram to your esc?

Best I will offer without a substantial contribution to my retirement fund would be a poor clarity photo from a considerable distance.
You're Tasmanian.. we've heard about you lot... a preference to replicating your own gene pool.. icky stuff. !
What hope of keeping the design hush amongst a group of deliverance folks like you mob ?
                  hehehe

esc is a simple design really.
two wires enter, three wires leave.
                  magic happens in the middle.

re mod end points after esc th set.
do not try this on an esc whose origins are aero.
The aero esc NEVER get rpm over runs due the prop always engaged in air flow
[ there are 2 specific and rare exceptions, but I wont tell you ! ]
Marine applet where prop gets air and free spins will DESTROY aero esc modded to suit our app.
EMF buffer caps unable to handle unmitigated returns.
Castle the most obvious DO NOT USE 105% mentioned here

Cn esc despite various vulgarities do have over rated return caps and generally survive the 105 rule.

But as they say in the movies.. do not try this at home.
                    Meaning, at your own risk.

                    :))
