I may have missed it, but what are these people doing for jobs/money and food when they dont return to the workforce?

It's obvious - stowaway on a plane to Mexico, sneak across the border to the U.S., and well, you know the rest....

As of right now it's still cheap, but it really doesn't matter. The exploitation of workers just moves from country to country. It started in Japan, then Taiwan, now China, and parts of Korea seem to be on the forefront. It's hard to believe China will ever rise above though...they have so many needy people there, and business ethics are practically a non-issue.

Yeah but the realitiy is that even with "inflated wages" and "Bonuses' the average chineese worker can work for far less than their US conterpart. For instance a U.S. manufacturing worker needs say minimum of $20.00/hour which using the 2000 hour rule = about $40,000/year to "support" their family and in China according to some documents its around $2.00/hour or $4,000/year. Huge Gap!

Several paragraphs down : " They come from a culture where imitation is perfectly acceptable. Product development there is seen not as a creative process, it's seen as a repetitive one".

Let the U.S. (and others) do the costly R&D, then knock it off with low-cost labor. Don't get me wrong; I'm as guilty as anyone for taking advantage of this - 'tho I will only own a U.S. company's vehicle (in spite of lots of conflicting logic on this issue).

The Chinese are smart and know how to walk away from work in factories to go back to farming. Something we could learn from.

Imagine if every blue collar worker striked for 3 days in N. America, things would change.

                  LOL.
Yeah, they work to the point that they don't see their families, get little compensation or validation for their work, and have an overall way of life that most of us would find un-acceptable...all so they become so miserable that some of them choose to jump off the top floor of the buildings they are working at.

I hope I'm never that smart.

I don't think you got my point or either I did not express it correctly.

I should have sadi they are getting smarter and walking away from the factories and going back to the farms. After all, Iran needs food from somewhere and they will trade lots of oil for it.

I expect that everyone should know how to grow some food, are you going to work and pay the Government 80% of your salary? We are working right now to get into that situation. Stocked food and a plan to live somewhere after the Gov. takes our home when property taxes goes out the roof.

What I expect in the next 10 years
Higher Property Taxes, they go up every year as is
                      Higher State Income Taxes
                      Higher sales tax
                      Vat tax
                      Higher SS tax
                      Higher Fed Tax
                      Higher Medicade Tax
                      Higher Medicare Tax
                      Higher County Occ Tax

To the point that working will be stupid.......

My thoughts are and have been that - our current system (basically everything we do) will not survive another 50 yrs. As far as U.S Mfg specifically its basically non existant > http://www.ndia.org/Divisions/Divisi...%20ES%20V2.pdf.

50 years? No way we will last that long. We have $50 trillion of un-funded handouts promised between now and 2050. We have generations of people with hands out now. Anyone $50K on down is getting something, most don't even know it. We are done, beyond the ability to change and come back.
