Propaganda
CPC locked out the employees, not the other way around guys. They were doing rotating strikes and mail was going through.
Really, I can see both sides of the coin but, you union bashers need to really think about this for a while. I don't think you see the other side too clearly due to this kind of propaganda.
Lets say Canada Post suddenly stopped doing international packages. How much is it going to cost you to use UPS, FEDEX, Etc... ?
What transpired was so close to Dictatorship its unbelieveable! ...and some of you applaud it. Wow...Nortavlag Bulc

Urban Postal Unit Negotiations (2011) / Bulletin
Negotiations Bulletin no. 78
After 12 days of one-day rotating strikes and 13 days of a full-scale national lockout, CPC CEO Deepak Chopra and CPC Chief Operating Officer Jacques Côté are happy to see us. Or so they say in their latest message to employees. Chopra and Côté claim to know that this has been a "very difficult and stressful time" for us and our families. They should know, they did everything possible to make it difficult and stressful.
First, they came with a massive program of rollbacks including the elimination of top-up pay for injured workers, an attack on retiree benefits and the elimination of our sick leave plan. Then, after we had no choice but to issue our 72-hour strike notice, they cut off all drug benefit coverage for everyone including workers on disability insurance. Then, after a period of one-day rotating strikes, they initiated a national lockout to provoke the Harper government to attack our rights with back-to-work legislation. Yes, they have been very successful in making this time difficult and stressful for us.
Change in Delivery Policy Delays Resumption of Mail Delivery
Not content to attack postal workers, CPC has also initiated a change in delivery policy which will adversely affect the public. In Montreal, Windsor, Hamilton, Scarborough and Kitchener and many other locations, letter carriers reporting for duty were instructed to return all their undelivered mail to their originating office after eight hours of work. This new policy will further hold up mail delivery, which was shut down by Canada Post on June 15th.
Time for Truth and Responsibility
It is time that senior management of Canada Post admits that their entire negotiations strategy was a complete and utter failure. From the beginning they made demands for rollbacks that no union could agree to. Their refusal to accept CUPW's offer to return to work and their decision to initiate a national lock-out has cost CPC millions of dollars and many parcel delivery contracts. They issued public statements that distorted our bargaining positions and lied about the costs of our demands. Their decision to cut off drug benefits to all workers including those on sick leave and disability insurance caused enormous hardship and stress. Now they say they are happy to see us back at work so we can make them more profits. It is time they started telling the truth. It is time they take responsibility for their actions.
In solidarity,
Denis Lemelin

Yes but, I don't know if there would be any delays because of backlog and the CPC management seemingly not allowing overtime to help remove the backlog.
Love those ever so kind Crown Corporations huh?
I guess they did a cost benefit analysis and found that it was cheaper to keep screwing busnisses & consumers with delays than to allow overtime for postal carriers. Politics...Nortavlag Bulc

Boohoo to CPC that caused it's own problem and tried to blame it on the postal worker.
So the customer is to getat least until the end of the week.
Pleading for patience by it's customers
"Canada Post pleads for patience over backlog"
..Canada Post says it expects to have a backlog of mail in its major centres caused by the recent lockout of employees cleared by the end of the week.
John Caines, a spokesman for the Crown corporation, told CBCNews.ca the system dealt with a record volume of 70 million pieces over the weekend — about three times the normal volume — in a drive to deal with the backlog.
Last week, Canada Post stopped collecting letters from large circulation corporate clients in an effort to slow the influx of mail into their already strained system.
All mail being brought into the corporation is now being accepted again, domestically and internationally, Caines said.
Caines also again appealed to customers for patience as Canada Post works through the backlog, saying the volume in centres like Montreal and Toronto is still "very, very heavy."
"Our major plants are still very full," Caines said Tuesday. "All of the plants have an excess, but we hope to have it cleared out by the end of the week."
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has accused Canada Post of refusing to pay its workers the overtime needed to alleviate pressure on the system.
Irwin Nanda, CUPW's national director for the Toronto region, said he's heard from several members in and around the city who report mail piling up.
"Carriers came into a lot more mail than they would normally see on Monday when the plant's not running full-tilt," he said of the weekend sorting push.
"If they haven't finished their route in the eight hours, they have to bring that mail back."
Canada Post's Caines said carriers are authorized for one hour of overtime at the beginning of their shifts to give them more time for sorting, as well as some en route overtime as needed. Casual workers have also been brought in to work in major centres, he added.
But Nanda called for Canada Post to bring in a "clean-floor policy" for overtime for all carriers, not just the sorters, to clear the backlog in a day.
"The one hour just won't cut it," he said.
Postal workers across the country were locked out June 14, after 12 days of rotating strikes.
Canada Post workers were legislated back to work by the federal government after its bill imposing a new contract on them received royal assent on June 26.
The government said it was necessary to get Canada Post working again to protect the country's recovering economy.
The Opposition NDP led a lengthy filibuster, arguing the bill trampled the postal workers' right to collective bargaining.

Anyone paid by public taxes should not be allowed to strike...it holds the very people who pay their wages hostage. They all knew what they were signing up for when they accepted their job offer, and theres nothing from preventing them to look elsewhere if they feel they have been wronged.
