This is one that has me a bit buggered too but my best guess is that the sponsons are flooded at rest (why ??) and the open rear allows them to drain.....fast !

    Easy one here.
Some shovels are square on the nose and some are round or pointy.
The square or flat nose is more for coal or aggregate and the round is for soil or clay.
I have 4 shovels that are all different. DO NOT use a short handle coal shovel to try to shift wet clay.

The shovel nose hydro is very much a shovel shape in plan view and in profile or cross section.
Get a proper shovel and lay in on the ground face down and you will see what it is all about.
    See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

A real shovel nose hydro has a shovel nose. Classic hydros commonly are called shovelnose's, when in fact they are technically round nose hydro's(real name).

Then you have drop-sponson hydro's, which have the sponson's deck lower than the main deck

maybe there building it up,they have found other peoples gear and finishing it of for me so its ready to go when it gets here.
i know a guy had his stock standard 6 cylinder ford falcon stolen from out side his house.
3 years went by and he never thought anymore about it till he got a call from the police saying they found his car, when he turned up to the impound yard there sat a ford falcon with a custom paint job, custom interior, a worked up v8 motor and acouple of grand worth of mag wheels.
he informed the police it wasnt his car unfortunately, but according to them it was the same chassis number so as far as they were concerned its his car,he was a very happy man

Lucky guy. I used to have a car that was stolen twice. By employee's of the shops that it was in. The sad part was the police said they couldn't do anything about it because I surrendered my keys to the shops voluntarily. Both times I found the car on my own. Sued one of the shops. But I was 48th in line. Evidently this has happened more than a few times.

Yeah, you can see the vents along the bottom to let the water out. I can't figure out why they want the water in thier in the first place. Is it open so they can inspect them? Seems a removable hatch would work better. Is it a problem on startup as it is direct drive and without the weight of the water in the sponsons the bow lifts right up? Can't see or possible blow over at start? Anyone know.

The vented sponsons, as I understand it, were introduced to make the hull more stable when moored in the water. As the Boat mounted onto a plane, the water would all drain out. The insides of the sponsons were waterproofed so no damage resulted. It is interesting to note that the Slo-Mo-Shun IV was trucked to Arizona during the off season to dry out.
