That plan looks even worse. This is the federal guidelines for poverty.. http://www.atdn.org/access/poverty.html How can someone who only makes 30k/yr pay for healthcare coverage? At 30k/yr you would have to be living in your parents basement.

66k/yr for a family of four? You're just struggling with living expenses. Who can afford coverage then? In a high cost of living area, the numbers won't work. His plan sucks!!!
To make his plan work, you would have to have a government option. He should be slapped for even submitting that one.

Who is really the Author of Max Baucus's plan? http://emptywheel.firedoglake.com/20...-fowlers-plan/

        Other issues... http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/8202

Montana Senator Max Baucus, the chair of the Senate Finance Committee, is the Senate’s point man on healthcare reform. A new article in the Montana Standard finds that Senator Baucus has received more campaign money from health and insurance industry interests than any other member of Congress. The article says, “In the past six years, nearly one-fourth of every dime raised by Baucus and his political-action committee has come from groups and individuals associated with drug companies, insurers, hospitals, medical-supply firms, health-service companies and other health professionals.” [includes rush transcript]

        I don't like this plan....

I think that just takes the "middleman" out of government backed loans...... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125321217589620383.html

But Baucus is a poster child for congressional term limits.

Supposedly there are 5 bills circulating through congress on healthcare reform; the HR3200 and the Max "Buttkiss" version. Does anyone know what the other three are?

OK so we do away with insurance companies, What about the 5.5 million people in the us who Work for those companies?

What about the self employed like myself, I get to pay double the portion the employer and employee?

So I make 5000 per month, pay all my taxes and self employment taxes. and then on top of that I pay mandatory payments of 405 X 2 X 2 (myself and wife) So now Im paying 1620 a month for health care on top of my taxes, I now bring home about 2500 a month. Cool NOT!

How does this affect my tax base. before or after the leaches?

That's in Japan. I'm sure the system would be much different here as we are a different country with different tax codes and structure. Throw in the fact that we have a much larger population, the costs would probably be significantly less. Much like in group insurance plans. But it appears to be alot better than the two plans that the media has hyped.

As stated in the article, private insurers operate there. They offer supplemental coverage that the basic coverage doesn't offer. "Japan has a vibrant health insurance market and in fact, many of the leading players are actually American firms, including Aflac. "

I'm not honing in on any one system. Just wanted to present alternatives to what the clowns in Washington are trying to give us. We can have a system in place that is not going going to bankrupt this country. As if bankrupt is even possible for this country.
