This was announced yesterday afternoon. It's pretty interesting that Obama is taking the insurance companies at their word and calculating in the sa

      Other proposals...http://health.cch.com/news/medicare/061909a.asp

The reform as a whole is not fiinalized. It appears that they are looking for ways to keep costs for the package in check. We need reform. It's just a matter of financing a viable solution that fits the needs of the people, won't run the country into uncontrollable debt, and ending the bipartisan bickering and misinformation campaigns.

Thinking more about this. Perhaps to help finance the reform, how about additional taxes on the foods that are making us unhealthy? Tobacco products, Alcohol, High sugar, calorie, fat, cholesterol foods that are leading this country into obesity, diabetes, and other food related illnesses. Just a thought.

Why not just have the gummit make the food for you (soylent green), tell you how long you can live etc. The entire problem here is too much gummit in too much of our lives. Frankly gummit is way too big now and you would like to see it get bigger?

Do you read anything before you post it? your Huffington article says exactly what I have been saying in this thread.

"If you completely eliminated insurance company industry profits which is clearly the aim of some, you would pay for two days of health care in America and in the process you would eliminate the market mechanism to control costs and improve quality of health care being delivered," Braly argued.

Of course I read before I post. There are two different sides to every story. I don't blindly take sides nor do I profess to be of one side. But clearly you have not seen/or read this. My point is we need healthcare reform. Attacking me will not get your point across nor will it strenghthen others views. Calling me naive, asking me what my profession is, Asking me if I read what I post...Let's keep to the topic and not make it personal. Can we do that?

Where did I even remote suggest that the government make food for us? In the case of Soylent Green, If you watched the movie, It was made by the Soylent corporation. A private company. I'm not a fan of big government either. But when people have mis-placed values of money over the value of a human life. That concerns me.

Ok Steven, I got an answer for you regarding who will run the healthcare system.
The private insurance carriers will not have to actively participate at the government level initially. But the way the bill is worded, the government will have more than an active role which could lead to the government running the system as private insurers don't have the reserves to compete with the governments deep pockets. In addition, there is not enough strong wording in the bill to prevent undocumented or illegal aliens from receiving coverage under the system. However, the intent of the bill is good, it just has too much additional "fluff" that should be addressed with separate legislation. Another point that was made was that Americans have a fundamental right to adequate healthcare but the current bill HR3200 with all it's "fluff" is not the answer.
It needs to be trimmed down. But I do reiterate, that we do need reform. I hope that was an honest enough answer to your question?

I am in no way for big government. The government and its catering to special interest groups are partly to blame for this problem. Sometimes I feel like the people are "being played" by both parties to see how far they can get and much they can take by holding this carrot in our faces. Rest assured, they all have their hands in it, whether it be politician or big business; ultimately the people suffer.

A agree we need more reform. What first has to be done is either legalize all the illegal aliens in the country or boot them out, so we can get some hard numbers on the census and start getting some taxes from this group of people that are working under the table. THIS Should be done before health care reform. Then make it illegal for people to have anchor babies. Start enforcing the removal of illegals for any reason if caught here.
