    SP40 WHIP-KILLER project

Heres some pics of my winter project. Our MMEU club runs SPORT 40 (any hull per NAMBA SP40 rules Any Motor up to 6S lipo). I decided to scratch build a one-off 35" Sport Hydro based on a lo-pro Whip style design. The hull will be built similiar to a rigger with a composite tub & replaceable sponsons.

    SPECS:

    TUB~ 26"L x 10"W @ beam tapered back to 8" W transom. 1/8" Ply frames skinned with .046 G10 sheet, G10 Strut wetwell

SPONSONS~ BBY SP40(Winston) Glass Molded w/G10 inside closeouts

    CANOPY~ ABS modified DUMAS tunnel

    POWER~ARC 36-75-1 1680kv, 6S1P 40C lipo, Huaya BX200 ESC

    HARDWARE~ 3/16 Flex/Stub, Speedmaster Strut (thru hull mtg)MACH 5 Cleaver rudder, HS645mg steering servo

    More pics

Heres some pics with the deck on, Canopy mockup, and sponson assembly. The sponsons are fastened with 1/4" SS bolts, sealed blindnuts bonded on the G-10 closeout panels.

Modified DUMAS Tunnel Canopy will be mounted separately from the hatch(minus canopy / rigger classes).

Next step will be cutting the hatch opening, and fitting, motor, hardware, coming soon.........

Great job Ken. May I ask why the removable sponsons? Will they be adjustable?

Thanks guys for the nice comments. I hope to get some vids of all my high speed stuff running this year. Just got a new mini cam.

STEVE i wanted to make the sponsons replaceable just in case....Boats in this class really move. They are dialed in right now for a preset AOA. If i need to adjust them i have the option within a few degrees.

Thanks again for the nice comments, i'm shooting for a RTR of 9-10lbs(G10 is incredibly strong but heavy). Once i cut out the hatch opening(this weekend) theres plenty of access to the sponson attachments. The sponson bolt heads nest on the inside of the 5" tub stringers. Hatch opening scribe lines are on deck pic#5.

Driveline has been offset 1/4" to counter act prop torque. Strut `Wet Well' is sealed off from the rest of the hull.
