    H&M Shovel Nose

Well I wanted to do a round nose hydro for some time but just couldn't find "the" right hull. Then luck came my way and I finally found one. I got her yesterday and today I began some work on it. She going to get a make over probably in "Hawaii Kai III" colors and spec power. I got her all stripped and block sanded today.

    Thanks again Tony (properchopper)!

George, I'll look for the thread from the fellow in Greece who did one up as the Hawaii Kai.

Well I got the hatch reinforced with two layers of 4oz. glass. That set me back 1 5/8 oz. but well worth it. I got the first coat of primer on today also. I also added some CF to the upper deck of the hull. The bottom of the boat is solid so nothing is needed there. I did not get to weigh the hull but not much added. I also smoothed out all the seams. Should get the first coat of primer on tomorrow.

Look at the "scalehydro.com" website and you'll see a beautiful HK in 1/7th.

        Also, erc-u.com has a pic of a 1/10th HK I think.

Thanks! Those are some beauties. This one won't be "scale" though. as much as I want to put a tail fin on, it's just not feasible.

Well I got some work to the hull done. The boat was setup for both left and right rudder placement. As cool as it would be to leave it that way I'm way too much of a clean look freak. It was decided on whichever was the easiest to remove. Got one side all plugged up and first round of primer was put on. I needed the first coats to be white so the gray wouldn't show through the raw glass.

Okay so this is the first boat that I used rattle cans and the first pass of clear wrinkled my dark pink. We were going on vaction so i left it. I sanded it and finished up the top and cleared the whole boat. I just need to black out the drivers compartment and she should be done. Just waiting on some decals. Hopefully I can get her wet this weekend.

What are the specs on this hull? Is it 1/10th scale or bigger/smaller? I know someone that wants to know.

It's 31" long and 14.5" wide. I beleive it would be 1/10th scale.

Hmm, perhaps others would know, but looking at RCU hull roster, and scaling for 1/10th, its 5 inches too short. Width is right close.

What paint did you use? I'm looking for a pink and a light blue and that looks like it turned out clean. Had a few of my hulls in the paint shop but they said they would be done today. I went to pick them up and they hadn't moved from where I put them down so I took them home.

The actual boat is 30' by 12' 3" so its not perfectly scale but pretty close.

Its Rustoleum double coverage. My local Home Depot carries the whole line their and it's $3.89 per can.

I got around to painting the drivers compartment black. I also got all the hardware polished and got new screws for all.
