Lehner Motor Technik nowadays sells some of there motors with LK = Lüft Kühlung (=aircooling). This aircooling does not use any belt or does not take much space apart from 5mm extra length added to the canlength. If additional aircooling is necessary at all (besides watercooling in a boat) I would certainly prefer their solution.

The only problem about it on a boat is that it would be pointing backwards, surgery would be needed to turn it around.
I would think you would want it directed to the back on a boat.

Well, the holes are what bring the air in, if it was pointed backwards then you would not get much air.

Uhh.. For it to ingest cool air the intake would need to be outside the boat, I'd imagine. If it goes topsy-turvy it would pump in (or leak in) lots of H2O methinks. Very nicely engineered piece, otherwise.
