Looking for Castle Hydra

Just as the title says, I'm looking for a 240A+ CC Hydra. A member on the here suggested a Hydra. "Castle Hydra XLX2. All day, everyday, and twice on Sunday". Thought i might test the waters and see what's out there. Thanks!

Probably help to be more specific as all of Castle Marine ESC's have been called Hydra's.

I have a 55" dumas with a 5692 730kv motor. I'm honestly just planning on using this at a nearby pond and lake we go to in the summer. After a bit of research I decided that 8s was probably my best bet even if I wasn't going for speed with this hull. I think anything over 240A would be sufficient. I' try to update the post. The best ESC with the most overhead will be the newer XLX2 hydra. OSE sells this as does Stump Fabrication.

Since you are here Tyler, what would be the largest 8S powered mono I could run with a XL8S Hydra with say a 1000kv 'ish 40mm motor? Unless it could handle a 56mm x 84mm 1000kv'ish motor. For sport fun runs

Ray, you can likely drive a pretty big S mono in the 40-50" range. Running a larger higher pole count motor like the TP56mm would be more efficient than running a 40mm at high RPM's.
A TP5670 on 8S2P would be no issue for the XLX2.

I have logged 315A average over for a heat race before where I threw on a big wheel and the ESC had no issues. The batteries were a little toasty, but these ESC's can handle it.

NIce, thank you. I guess the smaller Castle might not be as robust to run say a SSS 5684 1000kv.? It's a 6 pole and I used to run a 1200kv version in a 40" mono on 6S with a SF240 and a Prather 240 prop.

The smaller X8S is a great ESC, but cannot run much above 300A unlike the large XLX2 which will allow short bursts over 500A. On big motor mono's you can see pretty high spikes so the extra headroom is nice to have. In a big hull you have plenty of room for the XLX2. You can try running the smaller one, it will likely current clip.

The Q setup is fine for the XLX2.

At the Valdosta record trials. I ran for the P SAW record (didn't get it) and on one pass my XLX2 recorded 674 amps!!!
