have you ever ran a large boat on electric? Cause it takes a ton of batteries to go fairly slow. it costs considerably more than a gas setup. Just throwing it out there so you know prepare to buy bare minimum of 10,000mah batteries and 8s to get into the 50's. 12s to get into the 60's. 16s at 200-400kv probably being ideal for 1/8th scale with 4 11300mah smc packs and an SSS 56123 minimum. thats not to go faster, but to last more than 120 seconds without melting everything at a 60mph pace.

there is a reason its hard to find large electric kits. lipo simply cannot remotely come close to the energy of gasoline or nitro.

          gas conversion

I am open to 1/10 or 1/12 scale as well so I am not stuck on 1/8 at all.

Have you ever seen a large electric boat run at speed?
I have an "S" class - Cat - 8S - 41" - 87 MPH on the oval, 21 LB ready to run. - It all depends how you set it up.
The problem is in 1/8 Class racing, it is like a spec class, certain motor and batteries.

Larry you have twin 8s motors pulling over 6kw each. lol
but yes my club is brimming full of 1/8th and 1/10th scale hydros running 8s and 10s. they all run about 55mph pulling nearly 200A to do it.

I have not personally raced or owned a boat thats electric bigger than 1/10. So I am new to that aspect. I have seen boats that are electric and 1/8th that move pretty good. So much like you stated depends on batteries and weight.

ever looked at the cost of a zenoah engine? Like $220 + $100 exhaust. I said what I did because I just went through this with my 42" hull and realized I needed like $500 more in batteries to really make it last 7-8 laps at 60mph. like damn those gas engines kinda look economical to me now. and the pro mod ones whoop me pretty bad at my club.

I run a '72 U7 Notre Dame 1/8 scale on 10s. TP 4070 830 kv, ZTW 150 Hv esc, X447/3 prop. It uses only around 3500 mah for a heat race at 60 mph. Certainly not pulling 200A.

I have same motor in my 33" outrigger. it uses 3500w to go about 60mph with a M447 prop. On 10s you'd be pulling about 87 amps @ 3500w.
