    What's your budget??

Think I can help you out... have an Axial AX-3 system... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBMCM&P=0 - that's been sitting in the closet for awhile, works perfect. NO, I don't expect to get that price or near it, that link is for info only.

I've gone all Tactic radios for my entire fleet, so don't need this one anymore.

Receiver is tiny, range is great. For a sailboat you could wrap the antenna wire around the inside of the hull (so you don't have an ugly antenna tube) and still go as far as you dare. I did it with a powerboat, speaking from experience.

I've got pix, if interested, PM your e-mail addy and I'll sent them to you.

    Regards,

I have one, but it's 27MHz. Came with my Trax Blast, info is here... http://traxxas.com/products/parts/le...016transmitter - tested but never used, I only do pistol radios.

Receiver is 2216... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXTKL5&P=7 - both come with channel-5 27.195MHz (green) crystals, so both are ready to use out of the box. I don't expect to get a lot of $$ for them - thinkin $30-ish+, food for thought.

2.4GHz joystick radios are mostly used by the airplane guys, so tend to be rather spendy because they're 6+ channels. Rather doubt if you'll find an "economical" one, guess it depends on what you define as "economical".

Actually 2 channel stick radios for sailboats are pretty much the standard now. I found a 4 channel for 40 bucks, new and shipped. 2 channel were all BO. I use a pistol type for my power boats but for a sailboat you really want the stick type. It would be like running the land model or a power boat with a stick type, it can be done, but you rather do it with the pistol type, same goes for sailboats only in reverse, you can sail it with a pistol type but you rather not. The problem with non 2.4 is the antenna on the transmitter, when you have half dozen folks or more together with long antennas it gets tense.
          Thanks for the reply.

I've got an old but very nice Futaba 2 stick AM radio (originally for airplanes). If interested let me know and I can send over pics and more info. Not sure if you were interested in AM or not.

The 4 channel wasn't in stock so I linked to the 6. Not sure if you fly anything. I have the 9 channel, it works well

Glad to hear you found one, didn't realize the prices were that low. LHS stores are stuck on Futaba & Spectrum, if it's not one they're products, it's s**t in they're eyes. Guess that means the Trax unit I have is good for a paperweight, or better yet, chuck it in the round file.

Check out the radio this guy is using for his rescue boat... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE2mc...ature=youtu.be - Notice the range he gets when he has to go get a stalled boat... So much for the B.S. that AM radios have "limited range"

I've got one of those in the parts box too. Given peoples attitudes, think I put that one in the round file along with the stick radio.

Happy sailing, little too slow for my taste's.
