I'm running a .187 with 3/16 shaft. I figured I could take the lip off one of the reducers and but it in that way.

You're taking the long way around the rosebush to re-invent the wheel.

Well here it is. I took a Octura 1/4 inch Skeg Strut and converted it to 3/16. I like Tony's way but thought there had to be a easier way. Octura makes and sell bearing reducers for doing what I needed. This is what I came up with, and i think it came out pretty good.
Pic of Strut , Nose piece and bearing reducers. First thing I had to do was take one of the reducers and remove the flange around it so it could be pressed into the nose for the front bearing. I then pressed in the rear reducer and then the front reducer fallowed by the nose piece. After that I put in the front bearing which was a little tricky but got it in there. I then put in the rear bearing and run them in a little with the flex and some oil to make sure everything run smooth.

All together. The X on the side shows where the front bearing wound up setting.
