    WTB: Decent Soldering Iron

Looking for a soldring iron or torch that will be able to actually solder 5.5mm and 10 or 12ga wire. I have a cheapy walmart 40w iron but it just doesn't do it. I figured someone must have a used one laying around that they know works and is capable of what I am asking, so before I go to the store or online to get a new one I wanted to check here to try to save some money.

    Thanks.

Hey, I bought mine at Hobby Lobby and it works great. Go to the section where they do stained glass and they have these soldering irons that are easily double that wattage with a screwdriver tip. I have had mine 3 years and solder the 5.5mm all the time with it and am still using the same tip.

Not sure why your 40 watt iron doesn't cut it. I used a 40 watt Weller to solder 10 ga wire and 8 mm bullets on a 200 A ESC with no problems at all...in fact it almost gets too hot for 5.5 mm bullets...they are about $19 at most hardware stores.
      I let the dogs out...

The secret is in the tip. I've used a 40W iron for years, I solder 8mm plugs to 8 gauge wire all the time. If you have a 1/4" chisel tip and keep it tinned, it will work well. Mine's not for sale.
