I have an MG Im working on and I need an rx pack for when i disable the BEC. I dont know exactly what i need so any advice here would be great, thanks. Im looking to pay $20, whatever works.
Get a 4 cell AA Nimh pack. Theres a ton of folks selling them. Something in the 1800mah to 2200mah capacity. You can find them on Ebay, maybe OSE carries them (a better choice cause Steve does his quality checks!). That will be enough to run several times a day without recharging.
If you have to have mega power then go with a LifePo4 2 cell pack. The higher amp cells are rated to 2850mah and will last about 33% longer then Nimh. But at more then double the cost. Dont go Lipo unless your Rx will tolerate the higher voltage. Just my 2 cents.
John, how long you think 1100mAh 2s LiFe will last? I've yet to run it as I just got it. Your previous post has me worried I bought too "small" of a pack.
I use 5-cell NiMH packs with 1200-1400 mAh capacity (plenty for a day's racing). These are far better for many 2.4 gig radios. These packs have to be almost dead before the voltage drops off enough to cause a shut down of those 2.4 radios which are sensitive to low voltage. Also they provide more torque and faster transit times. Better performance, higher reliability - a win-win.

Is there a problem with SBEC packs as they are lighter and never have to worry about them running low, and at 5 bucks, they would seem to be the way to go. You get your choice of 5 or 6 volts to boot and a lot lighter plus they come with a cool blue LED!

Unike Nimh cells the LifePo4 cells maintain their voltage over a greater power drain range. So much depends on what servo you are using. Some can consume 3 amps under moderate use. A 1100mah pack could last long. Not sure what to tell you. But if its a light setup, say a 2075 Traxxas servo and your running 2 to 3 minutes each run you can probably get by safely on 3 to 4 runs no problem. But it does depend on how hard your turning and how much rudder input occurs. However if you got a big hull and one of those monster 1/4 scale servos? Your going to need to charge after each run. Just to be safe.
