    WTB, Big Assed 12V Motor

I picked up a 40" tug and am looking for a decent motor (Brushed) to move this beast. Something like a Dumas Pittman motor or similar.

Anyone got anything stashed away in their workshop.

Must be in great shape and must be willing to ship to CANADA!

Let me know what you have.

    Thanks

I've got 2 brand new unused Kershaw Design 700HO brushed motors.

They've been my E-maxx spares ...but after I discovered brushless, I really don't need them anymore.

My dad has a tug in that size. He uses a automotive blower motor to power his. He runs forever on a battery charge, tons of power, been using the same motor for about 15yrs, and available at any discount auto parts store fairly cheap.

If you consider brushless, castle has their outrunners on sale cheap...down to 220kv. I know nothing about tugs so maybe I am mis-guided here but Im guessing you are looking for high torque/low rpm???

I can get you one from work the size of a pop can, lol. Used to lift the rear hatch of a minivan. If that's too big, I can get ones that go in window regulators, or ones that are a little bigger than D batteries.

Do you know what the RPM's are at 12v's.

You don't need much rpm in a tug, just lots of torque to turn a big ass prop

Yup, thats what I'm looking for...TORQUE

I just picked up a 12V 12aH (SLA) battery that weighs about 20 Lbs, and it still needs more balast to sit on the waterline correctly

Thanks, but I think they are a bit high in the RPM range for my application

I'm going to keep this beast "low tech" as it just doesn't seem right using a brushless motor on a tug

Chummer, I don't know the rpms for sure' I will check next time I'm at his house and pm you. I don't think it's alot, the squirrel cage in a car does not turn that many rpm. The power it puts out is huge, he has pulled inflatable boats with 2-3 kids in it with power to spare.

Thanks Mark, I am interested in this one because it's available at local parts stores. It might be a good choice over the other one I have been thinking about. Looking in the 3000 RPM range to push a 65mm prop. Lotsa balls!

Doby, don't meant to hi-jack. Just a common interest.
