hatch
You know, if I paid attention to what I wrote, I think my life might be easier! Well, I got the hatch cover in and that thing really looks nice! I completely forgot about the vacuum formed mold or plaster cast. I ended up doing a simple gelcoated mold.
Used clay and plastic to build up an extension so the cowl can be laid up larger than the original, should give you more options on the cat that way. Got it waxed up and set with release agent, applied the gelcoat and several coats of glass. So now I wait until tomorrow and I will pop out the original. Let it cure for a couple of days and I will wet sand it out and prep it for your new cowl.
You never answered, did you want it out of carbon like the original? Or I could do that carbon/kevlar hybrid I have. Would work nice and probably be a lot better on radio signals.
Oh, and for others out there, do not assume I am doing this for free. I do not want to be known as the free hatch and coupler guy!

Brian, I trust your judgment on that call. I paid you for the carbon, is the other stuff at an extra cost?
Thank you again!!"A quick temper will make a fool of you soon enough."

The original came out of the mold just fine, now to dress the mold up a bit and layup your cowl! Since I have the cat hull also, I am going to pull it from the mold a bit early and lay it on the cat so it conforms to the cat shape as it final cures.
Gotta get this one done. Trying to clear my bench for the next project.

Well, since you paid me in silver coins, I will watch the value of silver and adjust the layup accordingly to the current market value when I do the layup. I think that will be the best deal for me, and after all, it is all about ME!!!!

Update
OK, got the mold done and laid up a couple of covers, trying different things out. First one I started with 3oz glass. Had three layers down and it was looking perfect, so I decided to try to put down a layer of carbon tissue. Yeah mistake on a curved surface, the mat was wrinkled and to stiff to conform. So It turned out smooth and the surface is solid, but there are bubbles under the carbon so it looks bad. Of course, once you paint it you won't see it.
Second attempt I went with just four layers of 3 oz glass. This turned out really nice except for a bubble that formed on the right side of the hatch scoop! So that is going to have to be filled in. Once again, when painted you will never know it. This one I pulled out of the mold and taped it to the cat so it final cures in that shape.
Going to wax it up again and try the 5 oz carbon cloth backed with 3oz glass. We will see how it turns out.
I will probably pack this up and ship it back to you Tues or Wed.
Anybody else need a hatch? this looks really nice on this cat, good choice.

Third time is the charm
Alright. Laid up another one today and just popped it off. A few pics before I tape it to the hull and let it final cure. The new carbon one, the 2nd one which was glass, and a glass of jack on the rocks for a night cap. The glass one looks nice and I started filling the one bubble in it. This one also turned out nice, no bubbles from what I saw.
My carbon supply is rather low, so it is not one solid piece, but it does look nice. That little scoop up in the top is a pain!
I will see if it is fully cured tomorrow evening and get it ready to ship back to you. I am sure you are anxious to get this one back, I have had it long enough I think.
This is a really cute little cat, I like it. Still think I want something a bit larger though. A little larger than the vacuum formed one I started and smaller than the rut of 32" cats out there. Hmm.......
