I think I may have a complete flex to steerable BJ outdrive set up I could sell you. I have one with a steerable od and this really makes for super maneuvering - it can almost pivot.

One thought, you may want to either gear down or use small 3 blade prop. I don't see the need for a lot of motor, just lots of torque (like a tug boat).

I will check when I get home this afternoon (4-5 hrs from now). I have ESCs .... but can I part with one? Will think about it.

I didn't want to imply that I had a prop for you, just passing along what I have found as successful.

            Christian,

The hardware Jesse has is what I am using on the rescue boat in your link. I am running a straight flex cable without the U-Joint, but it should work fine with the U joint from the BlackJack hardware. Directional thrust is the way to go at low speeds.

A brushed motor and ESC may work better for you, because like Jesse said, it is torque not speed, that you want. Plus it is easier to find a brushed ESC that has reverse, which is a big help when you are trying to rescue a boat. I used a Traxxas Titan 14.4V motor in the PVC rescue boat you have in your link and I am only running it on 7.4V with a Proboat brushed ESC out of an Apache 24 Cat. I am not watercooling it, just aircooling and it rarely even gets warm and it is fast enough for a rescue boat and very controlable. I think I may even go up to a larger 3 Blade prop like Jesse suggested.

Thanks FE Wannabe and Jesse , your help are awesome !!! , ok i will go the Brushed route , it will be more easy to find ? , since everyone go Brushless ?
and with reverse it will more easier !!!
thanks again , keep the idea coming please !!

                100%

I recently switched to an outboard and directional trhust is the way to go. I use a 700 brushed motor with a cheap esc (stock AE). I use a stock SV27/UL-1 plastic prop with good result also. Good luck with your project!

                    My 2 cents.
Just get this and pull around rope with floating hook on it (coat hanger stuck thru foam backer rod bent into hook). I think it will be cheaper in long run. It can all so be upgrade to brushless very easy. This will be much smaller and easier to transport.

Picture of hook and tear into rescue boat.

My PVC lifting rescue boat is large and does take up some room to haul to the lake, but it more than makes up for it in usefulness. I have a couple of boats that do not like to be pulled or pushed through the water and that is why I designed the lift.
I was thinking of adding quick release wheels to the stern end of my PVC rescue boat so I could strap my boats to the vertical supports and use rescue boat as a cart to haul them down to the water from my car.
Nothing like dual purpose contraptions! LOL

Looks like around $50 worth of hardware new, so how about $30 shipped for entire pictured set up? I will include the T bracket for mounting to the hull as well (not in the picture).
