WTB: 3.17mm to 3/16" flex collet or coupler

Looking for a coupler to connect a standard sized motor shaft of approximately 3.17mm to a 3/16" flex cable setup.

I can't seem to find these anywhere!

    I replied to your e-mail.

That is a odd size but nothing that can't be made.

I sent this in email, but going to post it here as well, since more help is always a good thing! But thanks very much so far for any help Jeff!

      I ordered this setup:

It says in the description it comes with a 3/16" flexi cable... so I am thinking that the cable itself where it connects to the motor is 3/16" as well. Do they make a different cable with a more common sized end that will work better but still goes into the 3/16" prop shaft?

I'm very new to RC boating, trying to get into it. Trying to reuse a lot of the parts I have from cars/planes, until I can figure out exactly what I like and what works. I'm currently trying to outfit a hand built 36" cat as a test boat, but in the long run will get a brushless system in a bigger, 48" cat that I'm also building. (it's not done yet)

Jeff... 3.17mm is otherwise known as 0.1248... or .125... or 1/8"...

Thank you Darin...I am pretty sure I have that bit...along with 100 other sizes. That was not my issue.

Odd to have 1/8" shaft with a 3/16" cable was my point.

Also, a little secret is you do not drill using a 3/16 bit for 3/16" cable. You would have slop in the coupler.

That one is VERY odd... indeed... I don't think there is a motor made with a 1/8" shaft that can power a 35" plus boat... not for long, anyhow...

Exactly.. I think I would go for a bigger motor to begin with. He will either cook the motor or the ESC pulling too many amps through a small motor.

Mreveoman...you should consider an XL motor for that boat. Don't start out with issues and with this set up you most likely would.

Your call....I will make whatever you want.

3/16" cable is .187. Common size. What motor are you using that has only a 3.17mm shaft? Sounds like a small outrunner. The setup you ordered may be way too big for your motor. Most motors we are running have 5mm shaft. Give me a little more info about what motor you are using.

Ok, I think I understand a lot more than I originally did.

The idea with this boat is just to get a basic understanding of making the boat, how it works and things I like/dislike... not for creating the perfect speed machine. I am building up a 48" boat for that, which will inherit the 3/16" flex cable and a bigger motor like an XL or other.

The reason for the 1/8" shafted motor right now is to just have something running in the funds available before the vacation time comes up where I'll be at a lake for a good couple days. The motors I plan on using right now are old aircraft/sailplane motors, of the 540 size, with a 1/8" shaft. I expect to go through a couple, so that's not that big of a deal. I have a bunch!

In the meantime I ordered an Octura .130 flex cable for the 3/16" prop shaft and some smaller props. Then I was able to find the 1/8" to .130 couplers. It should get me by for now.

I have that Octura coupler in stock unless you order it from OSE then that is fine.
