    WTB Renegade Hatch - Raised

I'm looking for a Renegade front hatch that is raised to allow for different motor sizes. I have a buddy that is going to make one for me, but I'd hate to bother him.

I am looking for a raised section that is 1/2"

Does anyone know of anyone that has one, has made one, or if it exists for purchase.

    Let me know! Thanks.

I have not heard of one, but its 1/64 ply, you can cut out a hole and make some type of cowl for clearance.

And this is where I'm stuck

And this is why I ask. Thanks for your input though, all input is good!

Well, I've been talking to Randy at BBY about some of his hatches. I'm hoping one of those will work for me.

Latest info: The Renegade hatch measures 6 5/8" by 2 5/8"

So, if you have a hatch for another boat sitting around, please take a measurement to see if it will work for my purposes. With that information, I can hopefully go to the manufacturer. Please note, I'd like to have 1/4" around the edge to allow for tape.

        Thanks!

Hey miniscus, I have thought about that also and have thought of a way to do it. You know those plastic easter eggs that split into two halves...just take one of the halves, lay it down on your existing plywood hatch, trace the shape, cut it out and then glue the plastic egg half in the cut out opening (use the egg half that has the lip around it so you will have a tight glue fit). This would take on the look of the Rigged Insanity hatch... Hope this helps. Here's a couple pics...

Are the renegade kits still available? I'd like to build another one.

Hi ace028, I just ordered mine before Christmas, so I believe so... I just checked and Steve's site is still running. I still have to paint mine (and the Insanity, next to it in the pic) I think if the Renegade runs well, I may have to buy another one also...just like the other hole in my head that I need...LOL!

Great idea. I should have known you would have come up with an egg idea

The Renegades run great! It's ridiculous speed for the size. We haven't GPS'd the Renegade in our club, but I would guess between 42 and 43 mph. We have to get a radar to confirm. It's not like we're going to fit a GPS in that thing!

Thanks again for the idea. I'm also still accepting ideas!

That's hillarious!!! I never even though of the coincidence!!

Actually, after I posted that, I thought that the plastic egg idea might not work since they break open shortways and not long halves....but....another option came to mind along the same lines...Silly Putty containers break open longways...and you can even use the Silly Putty for making prop impressions with when modifying blades!!

I'm even thinking of making this change before I paint mine.

                  Thanks for the review also!

Yeah, I know they open up the other way. But I was guessing you used it as a form.

Isn't the silly putty round or circular in shape?

I'm thinking I may have to go to the dollar store and see what they have there. Who knows, maybe there's a hatch there ready to go! Anyway, I'll pick up a few if I find something, granted it's not to expensive => in a store other than the $1 store.

Plus, the dollar store here should have flotation by now. Hopefully they'll have different colors than last year.

You are really funny Meniscus!!! The Silly Putty is shaped like an egg...at least I think it still is...if you can find a pre made hatch at the dollar store, pick me up one too...too funny!!!

The flotation will probably be next to the plastic Easter eggs and will probably come in Easter egg colors...the Easter egg basket grass would make a nice nest to lay the lipos in!!!LOL!!!

Boy, I have some rediculous imagination!!
