    NON-WORKING Seaking 180 V2 ESC...?

Does anyone care to have a 180Amp, v2 Seaking ESC that was submerged for a couple minutes and now will not respond to any programming card? I submitted a repair request to Hobbywing, and they quoted me $86, plus shipping. I was like I have to put a price in here per the rules, so I'll say $10 shipped, or best offer. Going in the box for electronics recycling, otherwise. It will not come with any bullet connectors.

    Thanks,

Does it still work. . .meaning other than programming issues will it run the motor? If it still works then I'll take it . . .

It is unresponsive to anything I've tried. It hasn't worked for me since it came out of the water, and that was about a year ago. It wouldn't respond to my transmitter for weeks after it went under (thought I'd give it time to dry out before completely giving up), so I finally pulled it out and put a different ESC in that hull. It's just been sitting since then, and I've been plugging it in to the different programming boxes I have with no success. I figure we probably have a few guys on this forum that are from the days when your small electronics got a hiccup, you got out your meters, drove to Radio Shack and after a couple minutes with the soldering iron it was fixed. So, rather than give up on it, I thought I'd see if anyone here wanted to take a crack at it.

As for shipping to Canada, I will, but the buyer will have to cover the full cost of shipping. Do you know, approximately, what that would run in US $?

If it will still work it may need one or both of the following, maybe something else I've not seen.

New Caps and or the Bec is fried.

If Bec fried try cutting the red wire and use and RX pack to test it's operation.

Let's assume it's the BEC...if I remove the red wire, should it be able to talk to the programmer? I'll gently remove the red from the connector, and see if it makes a difference.

Well, I just tried it, and the programmer won't even light up. It's interesting, though, that the programmer stays lit for a couple seconds after I disconnect the LiPo. Doesn't that mean the cap's are working?

After disconnecting the red wire, did you then use a 4 cell AA pack plugged into the program box?

Nope! I was wondering about that, too, but I didn't know how to plug in another power source. I'll plug the additional power source into the programmer, and try again. It will be tomorrow afternoon, though. Even if it works, the ESC will still be up for sale. I have no hull to use this in. I'll update this thread tomorrow with the BEC-bypass results.

I was thinking of the same thing. Like Ray said maybe the caps are shot or the bec or both. Perhaps cutting the red wire and using another bec . .rx pack might power it up. . .could be the wires?? I bought a used boat with the same 180A esc using a castle 10A bec that worked intermittently. I noticed when I moved or wiggled on the wires around it would work. I didn't know much about escs or bec or how to solder back then, I was new to the hobby. So I took it to hobby shop to have them look at it. I went back the next day and they said they soldered and change all three wires and it worked without any problems. The guys at the shop said that it was odd for that to happen when there were no breaks on any of the wires. To this day, even though I know much more about an esc or bec, I'm still not sure if they really fixed it or was I just doing something wrong. But one thing for sure, I know how to solder now and getting better . . lol

Also if there is salt water fouling you may be able to clean or not? Was it used in salt water?

Powered up the program box via 4 AA's, plugged the ESC into the program box (minus the red wire), powered up the ESC via LiPo, and all I get is dashes on the program box. Unplugged everything, plugged in an identical ESC to the same program box, Powered up that ESC via LiPo, and boom - full access to the ESC functions. So, program box is working (and I've tried others, too). Getting nothing from the submerged ESC no matter what I try. IF anyone wants this thing, make an offer. It will probably cost about $4-$5 to ship it USPS, so that's pretty much the bottom dollar. Otherwise, it's in the recycle bin.

Thanks to everyone for their troubleshooting input.
