I'm sure there are some people taking advantage of it, but how is it really detrimental to the forum exactly?

I actually find links to ebay very useful most of the times.

EDIT: Just wondering if the new rule applies only for the Items for sale section or not?

Unless Steve wants it differently it is just shutting down a person who is selling an item from linking to another site for the sale thread. Post what you have for sale here.

lots of scammers on Ebay at times any ways
besides the rules state we need to add a picture or pictures of the item(s) we are selling

Hey let me first say I was the guilty party in this 2 days or so ago on a 1520 motor.
I have sent a pm to Steve apologizing to him for the infraction and assured him it will not happen again. I simply did not know it was a violation of site policy

This is a great site and I am perfectly willing to go by what ever Steve wants. It is his site and I will not question his motives or thoughts on the matter. I love coming here 4-5 times a day knowing there is opportunity for a learning curve each time with all the info you guys put up. This is no big deal gentlemen. Surely we can live with this rule in order to read, sell, buy, and trade secrets to making FE a good thing for all.

Guys it not a matter of money or anything. Its just stopping it before it gets out of control. People surf the swap shop for deals they can get. I think if they wanted to surf ebay they would do that. Our goal is to get people to list it here instead of ebay.

Good decision. I think sometimes though, the user is just trying to give his friends here a heads up of something he saw elsewhere. I understand the reasoning behind the decision though.

True. I believe Curt was providing a link to a "good deal" he found on ebay since there were people looking for that particular motor, and not linking to an item he was actually selling there.

This leads to my question, is it OK to provide a link in reply to someone looking for an item to buy which is for sale on ebay or any other site? I've been guilty of providing those links in an effort to help. We can obviously PM our fellow members with these items. I always keep in mind and suggest Steven first, but there are times items are out of stock or not carried here on OSE.

I also re-read the rules on selling and noticed one that is usually followed, but open to interpretation. Rule 6 states " Once the item is paid for, mark the item sold." It is VERY nice when the OP marks the initial post with the "SOLD" notation versus having to look through all the posts to determine if an item is sold since the "Sold" note is sometimes made several or many posts down in the thread. Don't want to criticize but merely pointing out this http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ad.php?t=24555
                            versus this http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ad.php?t=24148
