The Neu motors are black, but the reason Darin uses the term is because an emotional argument that happened months ago pitting the Neus against the Hackers and Lehners. IME the Neus are outstanding motors, I have a handfull and they rock. I also own Hackers and a few Lehners and they are good motors too, but for maximum power (SAW racing for example) I rely on the Neus.

Thanks Jay.... you nailed it! I was definately using "The Dark Side" as a "double entendre"...
In basic terms... the motor is black...
In more depth... got ripped up one side and down the other WAY back when these first came out for even suggesting that these motors were in any way superior to existing options... NOW, most of those who were ripping me about it are touting the prowess of these motors...
You got yourself a great motor there... It will take care of you and was money very well spent... I'd suggest you run a thrust washer at the coupler in any application you build to protect against the only real failure that I've seen on these motors, which is the forward endbell pushing off under heavy loads... You have to remember that these motors were originally designed for planes, so the can is designed to be PULLED on... not pushed... the forward endbell... just like the endbells on many other motors, is only held on by friction and some silicone... I use a 5mm thrust washer between the coupler and the can and have never had this issue... I think OSE stocks them and it's cheap insurance...
Now... go forth, build, and post pictures/videos!
