Swapshop gripe: deleting contents of OP

May I make a request to thread starters in swap shop?

Please do not delete OP as it contains important information on the sale and critical information that I always go back to use. It contains photos of the item and if deleted they cannot be compared to the item when it arrives to the buyer. Two threads have done this to me and I am getting more upset over it. I don't think it is cool, and it makes me wonder why the seller has to delete EVERYTHING in the OP??? Just mark sold and be done.

I would almost like to have OP locked to be updated by moderator or in a following post (I know this is not possible) but a stern warning and a subsequent ban may be as useful.

    I do propose this:

when you click on new thread button, it takes you automatically to the rules page, then from there you start your posting...

I would agree, but you could also "quote" the original post when you reply and the OP cannot edit that post.

not sure about the pictures though -- but you could ask for pictures to be emailed to you if you wanted. Again your own record

I fear I may be one of those who have upset you

Its something I've done for years on forums because even if you mark it sold it seems like someone will come through and see the ad, pictures, etc...not even look to see if its sold or not and ask if you still have it. Its mainly come from places like RCTech where the board is patrolled by 12 year olds and idiots :)

Now to shift the anger a bit, one complaint I have is things that are sold, and have been sold for a little bit getting bumped up top by buyer/seller comments and general chit chat. To me there is nothing more frustrating than logging in, seeing something you really want and come to find out it was sold 2 weeks ago.

I agree with quoteing the OP. As for the Rules page, I stated that a while ago, but no one thought it was a good idea...

Yeah that doesn't seem like a very logical rule. If someone doesn't post a price or picture the ad gets deleted. Soo....if someone deletes their original post the ad gets deleted? :)

I would be happy if all boards had something like RCGroups where after you sold your stuff you could close the thread and it would die and quietly go into the abyss...

I'd be happy to see a way that you could mark your ad sold so people browsing through ads and searches would immediately see its gone.

I like this idea, close thread and/or mark sold in the thread title (as I suggested months ago). Closing is probably easiest and would definitely preserve the thread - however, problem remains: when buyer wants to give feedback or complain about product... we don't want the thread locked up yet.

Realistically, I would see most effective and easy these 3 steps:
              1) splash screen with rules when you start a thread (might need to do 1 thread per item)
              2) seller has ability to mark sold in thread title (--- oh what if this locked OP?)
              3) close thread after all feed back has been delivered and parties are happy

I think adopting the iTrader feature would be much better than feedback in posts. Because like I said the whole feedback in posts bumps up something sold and honestly I don't care how happy someone is with their purchase if I can no longer buy it :)

there is no reinvention. I don't think you should have to hit the damn "print screen" button. this is just discussion on fine-tuning a great site. Besides, if it doesn't happen to you, of course its just having to listen to someone bitching.

Actually I am not kidding, and while you are LMAOing, let me frame my gripe, since I can see how out of context it could result in this reaction.

I recently bought a couple things (in the last couple days) and before the item was even shipped one was deleted, and the other was deleted before I could go back and check to see if what was posted in the OP was the same as what I had in my had that had just arrived.

I am not discussing old dead posts that were deleted, however it is handy to go back and see the details or link to a sale for an item you are selling. I see the reason one of the OPs got deleted, but the other just vanished just after the items were paid for (today this happened).

My biggest concern is that a buyer will not have any leverage in a deal if the seller is not being straight up. If a seller deletes the pics of what you bought, it gets there in a non-functioning state, you go back to complain and the seller has already deleted the OP - you are screwed.
