    what is best minicat powerplant?

Have a minicat I tried out this weekend, motor is smelling burnt and speeds are barely on plane - even on 3S (X432 prop).

Anybody (SailrJim) know what is optimum replacement motor/esc for this? I

also need a new hatch... I have a yellow one, but it looks like it was painted... so whatcha got?

    Thanks

feigai 380 12s or 10L makes these hydros fly. the extra weight is a good thing too. i ran the 10l and a super-v esc and it was a rockin set-up. also built one for my friend with the 12s and it was equally as fast. i prefet the l can for a little extra torque. we run 32-35mm minicat props and 3s 2200 mah

      I used a 380 8L on3s with a seaking 60 amp. It was a bullet!

Is there something in particular you are looking for Jesse, with regards to a powerplant?

IMO, I think that the 380L is a bit much. I'm in the process of testing a small Ammo long can. The largest motor I'd personally put in would be 24mm. That's just my opinion.

Did you try a different ESC with yours? Typically the motors are fine as long as you didn't overprop. In the motor market, I've toyed with the idea of putting an outrunner in it. I have all the notes for my research on the subject if you are interested. Just let me know.

As a side note, I run the 3200kv Tenshock with great succes: 42-43mph range, but more speed is to be gained with unloaded prop selection.

It currently has an outrunner in it and a little esc. I don't mind outrunners and in small apps like this they are great. I agree, I am not looking to put in a 380L, but something to run on 3S and cook pretty good. I have a 40 amp himodel esc I have waterproofed and cooled that I was gonna use, just wondered what people have had good success with.

what are specs on motor in minicat hydro (sorry didn't specify earlier) ?

          thanks for the help

Meniscus, yes interested. please pass me your notes (email if you want).

          Anybody with a spare hatch?

            Jesse,

If it currently has an outrunner in it, it is not a factory Micro Hydro setup. With the stock 2600KV they GPS out at 37-38mph. Our 3200KV motor makes the Micro Hydro fly....40mph+. 30mm prop recommended. Your himodel esc should work good.

i have tried many set-ups and have to agree with sailr. the best thing i tried was the 3200kv motor from tenshok and it rocked. that is why the starship is so much faster and the micro hydro does not need the 380 can or torque..

Jesse, I'm inclined to agree that if you want solid, reliable performance, then go with the Tenshock 3200. It's matched very well to this specific model.

Note: The only reason why I was exploring other motors is I wanted to top 50mph in a SAWS run, mainly for the wow factor for friends who aren't in the hobby. I never intended to keep the motor in there for any run longer than 1 minute.

Agreed. I only ran the 380L because i had it laying around. It suffered from the extra weight in the turns.

Jim, I see on your site you have 2800, 3800, 4200KV motors... was the 3200KV a typo or is it hidden? They also don't specify what brand... Any OFE member discounts??
