    FS: Carbon Fiber plates

    Hi all,

Ok, I laminated a couple of plates the other day. They are 12K (VERY strong), 2x2 twill weave carbon fiber, laminated with polyester resin, and cured under heavy weight between 2 glass panes (hence the nice finish). I have 1 sheet of single ply which has flex to it, and 1 sheet of double ply (nice and stiff) which works really well for battery trays.

For blackjack users, they are cut to 1.75"x8", which fits them nicely into the sponsor area (see pic of my boat for example)

I can also do custom cuts for people, so tell me the size, and I will cut it.

For price reference, the BJ ones are $30USD shipped in North America, and they are 28 sq. in. So shipped price is a little over $1/sq in. Anything under $10, actual shipping will be applied (around $1-$2)

Any questions, or if I missed something, please let me know. When I use up what I have, I will laminate more, so waiting period to ship will be a few days. This will be a limited run of 4-6 plates, then that's it.

    Pics.....

    SINGLE PLY

    DOUBLE PLY

IN MY BOAT (mine are 7", yours will be 8" for more mounting options)

I have a long roll of 14" wide material, but it's gonna be an arm and a leg to ship it. If you are looking for 12k cloth, get on e-bay, and look up "carbon4carz" as a seller. They don't have regular auctions, but shoot them a message. They have tonnes of different sizes that are all cutoffs from projects. Best price you'll find. Tell them what you need, they'll tell you what they have.

      cheers.

they'll have it, and at a much better cost than I could give you. I am in Canada, shipping it to you would cost more than the material itself.

The strips in that cloth are not wide enough to be 12k tow.

Do you know what the weight of the cloth per square yard is? This is a more common measuring standard for composite fabrics.
12k tow, 19.6oz per yard. I will take a pic of the fabric when I get home for lunch. Might be the lighting not showing it properly.

edit...found some pics in my photobucket, might show it better.....

Polyester resin? Cool, where did you find carbon cloth that has the proper binders for polyester resin if I may ask? I will admit, it has been awhile since I bought carbon, but last time I could only get carbon mat that had the proper binder for use with polyester resin.

This is fantastic news, please share.

there's nothing wrong with using polyester resin on cf. It's not absolutely required to use epoxy
