Well, got four boats prepped and the recovery boat battery is charged. Now all I have to do is finish charging running batts tomorrow.
I'll try to keep an eye out on the badges Scott. I was thinking about trying to do a recovery boat orientation, too. I hate seeing people get in it push off from shore and then try to figure out how to lower the motor. If we're going to keep the motor working right we really need to teach people how to lift it back out and turn it off when close to the bank too.
I think it would be great if we all put our heads together and drew up a basic set of rules/guidleines for our club then posted it on the website too. Here's my installment.
Recovery boat operation
1: No person other than a club member is to attempt operation of the boat.
2: Any club member that wishes to help with running the boat must first go through an orientation on it's operation, and be signed off by one of the senior officers (members?). (In this case I'd suggest Chris, Scott, Ray and myself since we're all pretty good with it and Brian's sort of out of commission for now)
3: If you are uncomfortable in the water and cannot swim do not even attempt to use it. (we really don't need any drownings in our group and Ackerman is plenty deep enough to do it in).
4: Not really as part of the rule, but... This is not being written to discourage anyone from using the boat. Being one of it's main operators I want to encourage eveyone that will to do so. We just need to do it safely and in a manner that helps keep the equipment alive. (Not to mention it will mean less trips out for me.)Comment

I think that's a fantastic idea. Looks as if the weather is getting gloomy for Sunday. If you all meet, let's schedule a recovery course for the next TNT. Lesson, familiarization and technique, etc, etc.Comment
