I am new to rc boat racing but many years of various full scale racing and was wondering why rc oval race courses are right turn when pretty much all full scale oval racing is left turn?
Why right turn racing

In general full size boats have used right hand propellers. That's why boats have the steering wheel on the right side to counter the torque roll of the prop with weight. Racing boats found turning left was better as the boat naturally rolls to the inside chine with RH prop rotation.
Model boats started with converted model airplane engines and flex cables coupled to the crankshaft end that turns the prop so they used LH props. That became the norm and for racing models turned better with turning right. FE could go either direction but model props are predominantly made with LH rotation.

Incorrect, reason helm seat is primarily on right side is because of the red and green lights situated near the bow. Red on right, green on left, you must give way to red light. Therefore, sitting on right side gives better view to see the red light of a boat crossing in front of your line of passage.Comment
