APBA Gold Cup appearing at the Michigan Cup
Mark Weber Event Director for the APBA Gold Cup Race in Detroit will be visiting the Michigan Cup event on Saturday. I asked Mark if he could bring the Gold Cup trophy out for a visit, and he has agreed! The APBA Gold Cup is the oldest active trophy in all of professional motor sports. The 1st Gold Cup boat race was held in 1904. Detroit first hosted a Gold Cup race in 1916, and has been the permanent hosting race site since the early 1990s.
Mark is also a former full scale Unlimited hydroplane driver, and has interest in RC racing. The DRRA (Detroit River Regatta Association) has donated some nice prizes for the Michigan Cup race. There are 2 sets of two day deluxe APBA Gold Cup grandstand tickets with parking pass ($140 package) along with some souvenirs. The Detroit race is 2 weeks after the Michigan Cup event.
