    Sport Hydro 8s 2p

Races against Full Mod Gas sport hydro's!

    Neu 1530 1y, Swordfish 300 amp controller and 8s 2p batteries.

Testing strut height after changing drive line from 3/16" to 1/4". It was still 1/16" too high.
Practice pond is slightly shorter than (50') a race course.

Nice. Looked like it was upside down at first in the water...

I have been asked about the speed in the video, on the short course it was 71.5 mph even though I was just checking handling. The full mod. Gas sport Hydro in our club run 68 to 72 mph depending on pipe and needle settings ect.
Interesting that the SAW record is 84 mph, anyone want a SAW and oval boat since I have gone sailing?

not sure where you are seeing the 84mph speed but I believe the 8s Hydro record is 126.689 set by Tyler G

Both of you are wrong, It is a Sport Hydro not a hydro or rigger. NAMBA SAW Records as of 8/2/14 = S Sport Hydro, Randy Naylor, 84.160 mph!

Hmmm, check out the T Sport Hydro SAW record!

actually we are correct as we are not talking about a rigger and he pointed out the S Sport Hydro to me
we are talking about the Sport Hydro that Randy set the record with
and 71mph on a gps is a ways away from 84mph timed on a course

I think we are saying almost the same thing, a Oval race boat is set up for acceleration off the turns because top speed means very little. Acceleration and speed off the turns means lower lap times and that is what wins oval races, allows passes, ect.
SAW on the other hand is only about top speed because you have several hundred's of feet to accelerate not just the roughly 250' on an oval course.
That is why I was running a 58mm prop in the video for oval and for SAW they are running props in the 42mm range.
Looking over my data logger runs, for SAW on this boat I would start with an ABC 1818 on 8s and a 1717 on 10s and progress thur 1918, 2018. The other advantage this is it should not blow off at 90 mph because of my background with race car down force this boat has it built into the design. That's why when the pond is rough I am still wide open and the gas boats have to back off to keep from flipping.

Sorry, those secrets go to the buyer of the boat.

On a side note I have been playing with my 20 years of data logs and the OSE Speed Calc app for the last few years and have found if you adjust the settings to what your data log is showing, the speed it shows is within 0 to 4 mph off on an oval boat.
When I input this boat on 10s with a 49mm 4.00 inch pitch prop, a hammer knife rudder and no turn fin it shows 97 mph!

Sorry but that was in no way any interest in buying your boat
                            it was just conversation
                            71 is a long ways from 84

We at District 20 want to step into SAW racing at high elevation here in Colorado..
we have talked about this a few times and something we may have in the near future...
we will have a timed course, no gps, no prop calcs, but real deal two way passes...

Nice running boat! But, a sport hydro it is not if you go by the IMPBA/Namba rules. You would need some sort of semi scale looking cowling for that.
