Titan 40 - P mono... Junk Yard Dawg

here is a legacy titan, passed through many hands and most recently Jay Turner. I inherited it with a gear box and really low stinger... after a 60+mph wipe out, I ended up gutting and upgrading from round cell technology. Now she has a 1521 1.5 D motor, T180, running 4S2P and racing with an X450, flooded stuffing tube (1/2" adjustment)

this is just some nice slo mo with a good song. Thanks again Todd!

Here is Todd's same set up, same evening. Todd was getting a little verbal about his love for his vessel...

I have yet to mount the stinger on my Titan 33 build. Aprox. how much higher from the bottom of the keel should I drill? (center)
Nice motor BTW! Budget would only allow me a LEO 4092 2080kv

The Titan 40 I built to replace the one Jesse now has was the last mono I built with a stinger. There is just not enough vertical adjustment available (usually zero) to take into account the boat's weight, speed and the water conditions. I mounted mine too low at first, the boat was very fast but also very unstable - I added over a pound of lead to keep it on the water in the mid-50s. I removed it and raised it so the the centerline of the stuffing tube through the transom is between 3/8" and 7/16" above the keel. It takes about four hours to change it (remove stuffing tube, plug stinger mounting holes, enlarge stuffing tube hole in transom, bend and glue in new stuffing tube, re-drill mounting holes and re-mount stinger) so I don't do it often! If I was to do it again I'd raise it to about 1/2".

If your Titan will run around 50 mph or more in race water then I'd go for 1/2". If it will run mid-40s or in very smooth water then 3/8" would work well....depending on the boat's weight. Or you can avoid all the hassle by using an adjustable strut with a wet well like Jesse and Todd do.

We have four or five Titan 40s racing in the club, three are almost identical except for the strut/stinger. Any of them can win a race, I just happened to win the last District race on Saturday. The month before it was Todd (IIRC). These are great rough water race boats, good luck with yours.

Looking really nice in that chop,
Anyone know if the 33"hulls do just as good in the chop ?

I don't understand the question - what 33" hulls? The Titan 40 measures 33.8" across the deck.

              Ok thanks,
              I thought the titan 40 was 40"
I did not know that it was the same hull as the 33.8.

Thanks for the compliments. thanks for taking the questions Jay.

the name is based on the size of engine it was designed for, not the length.
Although, the Titan 29 really is 29" long... kinder cornfuzing.

I was glad I had my adjusta-strut-ability Saturday, I was able to raise the strut 1/8" in about 54 seconds as opposed to Jay's 4 hour estimate...
the race waters were very fast and boats were looser than in other waters.

I plugged all the holes for the original hardware, except for the stuffing tube, which is 3/8" centered up from bottom, (as low as possible). New hardware is pretty beefy, (1/4 scale sized) and probably overkill, (tail dragger). Running Weight is around 11 pounds+. The 3 mounting holes on my new stinger allow for 3/8" up, and down movement. My gut, (and Jay), is telling me to elongate the hole, and start at 1/2" up, and hopefully(?) fill the gap with aquarium type silicone sealant/adhesive. I DO like the idea of a strut, and wet well, and then, perhaps go a bit beyond 1/2" up, but I'm anxious to complete her, (with the parts I have), for my trip to Atlanta, N. Carolina, and Florida in a couple of weeks.
Sorry if I have Mucked up your thread Jesse, I'm just trying to gleen as much info about THIS boat as possible.

discussion is what its about! I don't really care where it happens - build thread, video thread, wherever.
Its always good to run your ideas by others as a sense check.

Your idea could work out fine, I agree with centering it at 1/2" then having 3/16" up or down adjustment.
stingers are sexier for sure. feel free to post up some pics in here if you don't want to start a new thread.

What was the KV of the 1521 1.5 D ? [ 1900 ]. Just wondering about picking up a couple of 5s batteries for grins for my Leo 4092, 2080kv, or is that TOO much?
