SAWS are over ; just playin' today. Love this little boat ; 63.112 mph one-way pass through the lights at the last SAWS with a stock UL-1 motor & speedy ( P- Ltd. Offshore). Hull airs out perfectly.

I can't quite figure out why it sounds like that; the motor is bone stock. It may be the prop aerating, or the wire drive. I have a similar setup in a MM with a .187 cable and it sounds completely different.2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap

Wire drive does make that sound. Not sure you are running in teflon or not. My China cat sounds exactly the same...actually higher with the 8XL in it.Comment

No teflon; I originally set it up for .062, but the new .078 fits OK but sans teflon. I just pumped the entire length of the stuffing tube with grease ; bear in mind that I don't have any problem with the sound; I kinda' like it. It's a SAW-only setup - of course some occasional Banzai runs are just plain fun

I'm leaning towards the idea that it IS the prop (which IS an ABC). Given that sound is energy, if a sound that loud was coming from the wire drive there'd be some serious friction generation going on to create that much sound energy. I also tend to think that a wire drive is actually quiter than a flex, and that the sound of a flex masks prop and motor noise. ATBE it's quiter than the IC boaties.2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap

OK, to confirm Jay's theory, and even 'tho this is a big no-no / thrown rotor-wise, for the sake of science I gave the boat a few quick pops on the bench. Result : no noise like that when in the water underway. Hence it must be the prop doing its surface piercing boogie.
