      Any ideas on how to keep the water off greatly appreciated. The lens is curved like a small dome so a wiper may be a bit complicated. Could put in a tiny fan and jet air but remember the boat is already going 40 MPH so that should be plenty of wind!

      I am already using a special wetting agent on the lens, sort of an advanced RainX that we use on our underwater optical ports. The water sheets off a bit better using it but still no where near perfect since the spray from the sponsons is so great.

        I'm giving it some thought.... It may be worthwhile to go in a different direction ; on a dedicated camera boat we could fab spray rail/deflectors to deflect the spray/splash away from the camera. Still thinking...

          RainX. Once the air moving across the lens hits about 40 mph the beads of water will run off.

            I use "Rain Clear Gel" I found it at my local motorcycle shop. It's supposed to be safe for plastic and lexan lenses. I use it on my gopro case as well as my goggles and it works fantasic. It also has some anti fog properties that helps also.

            I neeeeed to get the HD version!

              Yes, the product I am using I believe is actually better than RainX but the continual water spray over the sponsons provided near constant droplets fn the front of the lens.

              Here is another run at 30 frames per second. You can see it when the Starship goes over even small ripples on the lake.

                Just as a test I mounted the GoPro HD camera backwards. Now you get a view of the guys following you! This Starship really puts up quite a wake. It also shows me adding the wetting agent to the lens before I start...................

                  Jay is right about the speed, once you're at the top end, the water runs off and looks nice. I'm not familiar with this camera or if you even would want to try this;

                  Instead of trying to keep water off the lens, you can try to remove the lens of the camera and rig it off the front of the boat before water spray would even hit it and the rest of the camera would stay where it is now? Just a possibility.

                    I have attached a picture of the camera. You can see it is an integral unit and not possible to remove the lens or lens/ccd system. It is amazing to me the small 16" long Starship goes so well even with the additional air drag and 7 ounce weight of the GoPro HD camera/housing.

                    I have attached pictures also of the new carbon fiber turn fin I added. Big improvement in high speed turns.

                    I will use the GoPro camera mount to also mount the Garmin GPS unit so I can get accurate speeds while testing different motor/prop combinations. The Garmin GPS only adds 2.6 oz of weight, far less than the 7 oz GoPro HD camera system.

                      Here is one of the motor upgrades I am using. It is about twice the power of the stock 4200KV Tenshock motor. It is a Hobby King inrunner that comes water cooled and runs at 3900KV. I run the boat on a 3s 2200 mAhr Lipo pac.
