Yeah I looked at the ones from MHZ, I don't like them.

The one pictured above is more to scale the way the deck overhangs the transom to hide the drives. This is how the real Outerlimits 51 is built.

Here is a turbine powered 51 by Turbine Marine. I have seen this boat up close. Notice the set back transom.

One of my favorite boat videos.

The Outerlimits is a big hull very expensive and ... amazing.

The Racemaster is nice too, I' ve got a MHZ Fountain 40", I like this boat, not the same scale but what a beauty

One issue many forget with boats over 60" is insurance. Neither IMPBA nor NAMBA will insure you with a boat over 60", so if there is property damage due to a runaway, etc you're on your own. Some may think "scr*w the insurance", but they obviously haven't been involved in a lawsuit - that or they have nothing worth losing in a legal action.....

I say, screw the insurance. Sport runners don't usually join IMPBA or NAMBA anyhow. Where I run, the only damage that is done is to my boats.
Has anyone actually ever had to use their insurance through these groups?

Yes, IMPBA's firm settled a six figure injury suit a few years ago. Lots of folks drive their car or truck without insurance, doesn't make it smart. It's your choice, your money - and your family's future.

Or you could get AMA insurance. This is what I have for flying my airplanes and it covers model airplanes, cars, rockets and Boats. 4 million in coverage and its $55. a year.

Yes it will and there's no size limit either. I carry both AMA and NAMBA so I can compete at both events.

hmm.... I have AMA but for some reason I pay $75 a year I think? but yes AMA is great.... I mostly carry it for my planes reasoning but still.... if one of my boats was to get away from me I like to know that I won't be without some form of protection.... a few years back I had a plane get away from me when an ailerons linkage let go.... plane bee lined towards a fellow club members Pickup and went directly through his soft tonneau cover, in this case I just gave him a few hundred and called it a day.... but if it had taken out his bedside it would have made me feel much better that I wouldn't have had a $2500 day.... was a 60" span low wing heavy plane so would of done some damage... knowing all of us carried insurance we all laughed about it.... better safe then sorry.... and just the fact that it makes me feel responsible when running my models is worth it!!

                              Insurance

Hmm, seems insurance would be an interesting sticky thread somewhere about information. what the organizations are and what they cover (and what they don't).

I had IMPBA insurance years ago, but I remember reading the requirements. fencing around the race site, no watercraft on the water, things like that. It was restrictive enough that most races I attended were in violation of something. I always figured trying to use that insurance while running on a public pond or lake would be pretty much worthless. But maybe I was wrong.

so, who on this site is familiar with what the different insurances cover and do not cover? (seperate thread?)
