BL Outrunner Mini Rio

What a fun little project this was. I got from an OSE member a damaged non working Mini rio. I stripped it completely of all of its components and palstic trays etc, pulled the stuffing tube and did a complete rebuild. Brushless outrunner 3650KV on 2S w/ a 35A ESC. The motor/ ESC was a package off ebay. I reinforced the inside w/ a layup of blue/ black carbon kevlar and custom built a motor mount and battery/ servo plate out of the same material. I got 2 runs on it this morning. First one ran well but extremely bouncy and chine walked out of control. I brought her in and went back to the bench. I moved the ESC to in front of the motor and the RX to the front/ right of the motor mount. I tried it and it was better but still not great. I then gave the strut a small amount of neg angle and it got a bit better. Im currently running about a 30mm prop and just found a smaller one amongst my parts and will try that hopefully later today.

Thanks Nick. Im quite pleased w/ it. Few more adjustments and I may be able to get it a little better. For a little boat, shes a handful.

I was lookin at those Mystic hulls fromi Brian. I hope he continues to produce them as Id like to get one later down the road. Keep us posted on that build.. Im sure you will.

EDIt.. or maybe it is a 30A... I cant remember. and I cant see the ESC in the boat as its in front of the motor.....

That is a great running boat. I second more info on the setup as far as how long it runs. I like these small builds. Fast, challenging and cheap!

Just got in from the shop working on the mystic hulls. The tops come out fine, the bottoms are tricky.

Now I am forming them and then trying to get it into the corners better using a heat gun. 5 attempts from .030 to .060 and only the .040 turned out. Kept burning holes, so I need to work on timing and get my infrared temp thingy to use with the heat gun. I am making progress, just slowly.

The "befu mystic". Nice. Should have had a better sign in name......

Havent timed it yet.. just goofing w/ it so far trying to get it balanced out right and trimmed. I dropped props sizes and it handles much much better. I got to stay onthe throttle a lot more. Motor was about 126F and Batt was 122. Dont know what the ESC was as I cannot get to it... but the deck was warm above it. Im going to bring the angle of the strut back up just a bit and see if I can unload it a little bit and cool things down. The esc is not cooled... so hopefully it wasnt screaming. The motor is only cooled by the mount... which is the stock cooling plate off the stock mini rio. Basically a piece of flat aluminum w/ an aluminum tube zip tied to it. Nothin fancy.. but wanted to keep it budget.
