So.... I saw a posting for a Miss Elam Gasser that was priced right... I had one a few years ago, and wanted another to stick a 4035/800 outrunner in for a fun scale looking boat to run around 50mph.... anyway I talked to the gentleman after leaving my phone number and came to an agreement on the boat, it was in driving distance so it was something I wanted.
After talking more and more, he told me the Miss Elam was actually a boat that was a review for RC boat magazine and that he was a editor/columnist for them... I told him what I was planning with the boat, and he thought it was a great idea. Soon after making the deal before I went to get the boat he stated his son too was a editor/columnist for the magazine in his spare time and had a couple boats he'd part with. One of them was a Blackjack 55 that was converted from a gasser brand new for a big writeup in the magazine.... my ears lit up as I always loved the size of the blackjack 55, and I knew it wasn't the best hull design in the world for FE or any boat for that matter, but was just a cool looking BIG boat. As I got farther into the conversation I knew I had to have it... all the parts were sourced from........ here it goes....... yes Fine Design... no bad comments please :) But lets face it, the parts were def pretty well sourced as far as components. Used in the build are:
B&E Graphix
>> Custom air release vinyl graphics—“Interceptor”
Castle Creations
>> Hydra Ice2 HV 200 speed control—010-0087-01
Fine Design
>> Black Diamond Nemesis Series 12,000 brushless motor, 12,000 watts, 16hp, 580Kv
>> Aluminum square drive coupler
Losi
>> Fuel filter, aluminum, high-volume, LST (2)—LOSB5006
Octura
>> X470, 3-blade, Beryllium Copper propeller
Sonic Tronics
>> Mark X fuel pump 6V—Sot249
Includes a Tactic 2.4GHz radio system
Any way here are some pics sitting next to my MHZ mystic 114 for size comparison.... the boat runs on 12s, and the editor said the boat is VERY fast, so fast that it honestly scared him, well... if hes used to running RTR gas boats I wouldn't doubt it....
Anyway honest comments.... what do you think? Is it going to be fun? and should I pull the gear out to stiffen the hull with reinforcements? The hull and boat is absolutely mint shape only be using for the review and now sat in an office room since the 2013 volume 3 edition of RC boat magazine.
