I'm not 100% satisfied with the handling, but I feel like I'm pretty close. I want to get it running a tad bit more wet so it can handle the chop in the marina a bit better (and maybe let someone else try it out, right now it's too loose for a noob).
I'm putting a pair of 7.2 volt 4600 dynamite NiMH packs through it Darin. Right now I'm not sure exactly where my batteries are distance wise from the back of the tray, but with the battery holder all the way foreword, the cap on the end of the packs is about midway through the aft-most hole in the plexiglass/lexan. I've got the tabs about even with the bottom of the hull (slightly up but not much) and the strut is level right now. Thanks for the help offer, I'm glad to hear any/all suggestions/thoughts!
I'm running mine with the trim tabs set at 2mm from the bottom of the hull and bent down slightly. My batteries are mounted with the plug wires almost up against the plastic holder towards the motor end of the boat. Mine seems to run great and no bouncing unless it hits a wake or ripple. Strut is still set from factory...
You might want to adjust your trim tabs a bit and consider getting some lipos.... What kind of speed are you getting with the Nimh packs?
Mine has also handled pretty well except hitting wakes/ripples (which are unfortunately all too prevalent in a full scale marina canal). Granted I can't do full throttle turns safely (less than 60 feet wide where I run), but 3/4 throttle usually gets it though with plenty of room to spare! I had a stuff today going through a small hole in the canal that put the boat upside down and at least a foot underwater (at speed). Needless to say my heard skipped a beat, but she came up floating right side up and almost bone dry inside when I arrived with the rescue boat about 10 seconds later! I really need to resist the temptation to run during rush hour...
I'm thinking about adjusting the tabs a bit more for this week coming up (don't want to take chances knowing I'll be away from the LHS for a while), but I'll probably be leaving the strut alone and sticking to the stock prop instead of the M445 in the confined or rough conditions.
I can't get LiPos (family policy), but the NiMH packs are running pretty well for now. I can't comment as for a speed as I've not GPS'd her yet, but my estimate would be about 22-25 mph average pushing towards 30 with fresh packs (based on my speed guesstimating experience driving my Evader ST).
Low angles are key (helps to be in an inflatable taking the pictures) at least for the effect/idea/angles I'm trying to get. I like that Geico shot, good action, good angle, and a decent sense of speed too!
Thanks. Your right about the low angles. Never really gave going out in my rescue raft much thought but I just might now lol. Just need a better camera lol.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341357037.965156.jpg
Even without a great camera you can get decent/presentable shots, might have to get closer or slow the boat down, but it is doable (maybe not without getting we however).
