    Help!

I’m a novice boat builder and have gotten way over my head. I have built smaller boasts but this is my first attempt of a 108th scale boat. I’m having trouble getting the boat to run. I’m using a Neu 1512 4875KY motor, a Swordfish Pro 200A ESC, a Hobbywing 5A UBEC, and 2 Hyperion 4s/ 15.2V batteries. I had some problems with my soldering but have gotten some instruction and cured that. I set everything up according to the instructions that came with the hardware. The boat ran fine in the garage. When I took it to the lake, it ran for a couple of seconds then quit. The steering servo works fine but the motor will no longer run. I can here the beeps faintly coming from the ESC but nothing from the motor. Now when I hook up the battery to test the ESC gets hot really fast.

I know some of you may be laughing at me already but I just need some direction. I will include a couple of photos of the setup. Any help will be appreciated. I’ve spent a lot of money and time and would like to see some results.

4875KY is way too high for a 4S setup.
I hope you did not have your batteries in series =8S

Motor is most likely done. You would need another motor to test your esc. Esc probably survived but no guarantees.

We need more details of the boat and prop etc... 108th scale or 1/8th scale or 10the scale??

I am sorry to hear of the OP's troubles, what happened to him is way too common among many newer FE boaters. I wish that newer boaters would ask more questions before they try their first build, it would save them money, frustration and time (which is irreplaceable). The OSE forums are a great place to learn from the mistakes of others, but make sure you can trust the answers you get. While everyone here tries to be helpful, sadly there is a lot of bad information posted. Choose your "experts" carefully and don't rely on only one.

When asking for advice, be sure to give specifics about the boat, motor, ESC and packs. Be clear and accurate. Ask before you buy, I see a lot of folks who can't seem to wait a day for responses to their questions and buy anyway, often the wrong thing. Try to be smart.

I respect the OP for asking for help, I wish he had asked before he bought. We could have helped him before, we will help him now too.

I thought I replied but I don't see it so I will try again. Here are a couple of pictures. It is a 1/8th scale hydro to be a Boeing 787. I'm using two 4S batteries with a parallel connector. The prop is a CNC 55mm 3.03 pitch. I used a different esc and the motor still works. I tried the sordfish esc on a different motor but it did not work. I know I bit off a big bite but wht the hell.

              Lets start here:

              1) Motor is physically to small
              2) Motor is to high in KV
              3) 4S voltage is to low
              4) Prop is to big
              6) ESC is OK if its the one rated to 8S

Big boats need big motors to move them.
Big boats need a much lower KV and higher voltage to keep the current at a decent level.
Most 1/8ths run something in the 800-1000 (ish) KV range depending on whether they run 8S or 10S

If your ESC is toast, the you need a new one obviously.

              You need a different motor:

              You need higher voltage.

OK thanks for the help. I'm running two 4S/15.2V Hyperion batteries with a parallel Y harness. Would that be enough voltage for the motor you are suggesting? What size prop would you suggest?

4S is useless in a boat that size...running them in parallel is not going to work. Running them in series would, but with only 5200 Mah capacity, the run times will be short and depending on the C rating of the batteries, they might not be able to handle it.

You will probably need another set of 4S packs and them run them in a 8S2P configuration.

                  How heavy is the boat?

I think I could use these batteries if I run them in series. The have a 50/99C rating and they are 5200ma. I'm guessing but I think the boat is 4 or 5 lbs. What's a good ESC for that motor and what size prop would be best?

Ok it seems clear now ("4 or 5 lbs")that you don't have a 1/8 Scale.

What is the length of the boat? Can you post pictures for us?

Ok cool! It weighs 5lbs. finished?

Are you going to race it? Fun runner?

                            I run a NEU 1527 1.5Y on 10s1P,Jetti 220 Pro ESC, and an X450 3.

These folks run that motor on 8s2p.

Yea that weight is finished with all the gear. I hadn't thought about racing so for now its just a project for fun.
