at the club level your making this WAY TO difficult. Pick some motors and run the class. Commonsense prevails in this stuff, do what's smart.

By locals I meant the club guys. Should I just pick the motor or should I ask the guys that want to run it?

It looks like ya need to read the rule book before ya build one of these boats ?
This is not all of the rules, so please read the rest. http://www.namba.com/content/library...a_rulebook.pdf
          Hope this helps ?

          7. ELECTRIC 1/10 SCALE UNLIMITED HYDROPLANE
          a) General Rules
          i) The intent of this class is to replicate the look and competition of real unlimited hydroplane racing. Boats are 1/10-scale replicas (one inch
equals 10 inches) of the real boats that have raced on the unlimited
circuit. This class shall emphasize scale accuracy.
ii) Electric 1/10 Scale Unlimited Hydroplane rules will follow the Scal Unlimited Hydroplane rules (see Section 21) with the exception of the
          following.

iii) Electric 1/10 Scale Unlimited Hydroplane rules are intended as a supplement to the Electric General and Sport Hydro rules. In the case
of a conflict with the Scale Unlimited Hydroplane rules (see Section
          21) the Electric rules will prevail.

I copied this fron section 21..........

          C. HULL SPECIFICATIONS
          1. All boats will be models of past or present Unlimited Hydroplanes that are listed on
the Scale Unlimited Hydroplane Master Hull Roster.
          2. Boats are to be built on a scale of 1½ inches equals 1 foot of the actual boat (1/8th
          Scale).
          3. The true scale dimensions of any Scale Unlimited Hydroplane will be derived from
the unlimited dimensions listed on the Scale Unlimited Hydroplane Master Hull
Roster. Boats will measure within the following tolerances of the true scale size,
          excluding appendages.
          a. Overall Length ……………………………... ± 1 inch
          b. Beam…………………………………….……± 10%
          c. Maximum Depth……………………………...± 10%
          d. Afterplane Length (three point design)….……± 10%
          e. Tunnel Width…………………………………± 10%
          4. Boats will be painted, configured, and detailed like the actual unlimited as it ran on
the water. The acquisition of documentation validating a paint scheme, cowling
configuration, engine configuration, or other scale details will be the responsibility of
the boat’s owner. Photographs of the boat are an acceptable form of documentation.
          5. Boats will enter competition complete with cowlings(s) and driver(s). If any of the
removable parts fall off the boat during competition, except as a result of a collision,
that boat will be awarded no higher than sixth place points in that round upon
completion of the heat. This penalization only affects the points that are awarded and
not the finishing placement of the boat which incurred the infraction. The placement
of and points awarded to other boats in the heat are not affected by this ruling.

The few that I have seen would not be legal. One round nose wasn't even close it was 2 to 3 inches short

I'm hosed. I have a big project for Delta Air that will take me to Atlanta for 2 to 4 weeks. I leave this Sunday. So zero time to work on anything. Plus, my wife will be less than thrilled if I get right on a plan at the end of that adventure to go racing. ugh Gotta make hay and the sun and what ever that old saying is.

Tom is working feverishly on a scale though. Saw the progress last night. He should be ready for you guys.

I'm really stupid here so bear with me... If I have a scale hydroplane hull that is 30.31" long x 14-3/4" Wide is there any modern scale hydroplane that this would be close to scaled up 10 feet per inch? How would I find out?

If you know approximately what your hull resembles that's where you start. Then you check dims against the scale roster. The roster is here. It's on the scale pull down at the top of the page.

Typically guys go the other way and start with the roster and build accordingly. More often than not you find a hull you like and build it from Newton plans or have a frame set laser cut by someone that has already done the hard work like ML has. Getting from Newton plans to a working frame set is a bugger. Used to be at least. The plans were hand drawn and are more ideas than exact. You had to have a little imagination to make it work. Not a criticism. Some of the plans are ancient. I haven't tried it from scratch Newton plans in a while. They may be a cleaner gig these days.

This TFL hull looks very close to fitting the U-1 Miss Elam Plus 08' . I just don't know the sponson depth. Of course there would be a fair bit of changes I'd make to it but, to try and stay on a budget....

I asked for a bottom shot but, I have not got one from HOR. I'd have to talk to Monica if I wanted one or Tom C. maybe...

                              What do you think Jim?

"Scale" models are a WHOLE different ball game. The spirit of scale model boats requires a different mindset and commitment than you typical model boat. This document should have the original hull dimensions that need to be maintained... (you will need to calculate for 1/10 scale)
