    Which KV ekos upgrade?

    Hi all,
Im in the process up upgrading my ekos motors and esc and looking to achieve 55mph+. I have purchased 2 120 amp esc's already and now looking at the 2860 leopard motors. I will be running 2x 40mm carbon props for initial testing. My issue is as to which KV rating I need to run. I'm thinking 2190 or 2730. Any advise would be appreciated.

Either would work, all depends on what battery setup you go with.

2190kv you can go with a 4s setup, would be less amp draw.

2730kv you can go with a 3s setup and even 4s for a few short speed passes. SAW style running. I wouldn't push 4s for just sport running though. Typically in boats you try to keep the unloaded rpm in the upper 20k lower 30k range, but being a twin you can get away with mid to upper 30k unloaded. 4s would be pushing it, but like I said a few short speed passes should work fine.

Diesel is right on the KV's for 4s and 3s. But I put in 28mm ARC 2800kv's and run those on 4s with 40mm props to lv cutoff. Temps stay fine on those motors. Ive had my ekos with those motors for nearly a year and it runs around 58mph.

I have a first version EKOS hull, which I've replaced the motor mounts with the Venom in-runner mounts. I run Leopard 2860/2Y, Seaking 120A ESCs, Graupner CF_40 props, SkyLipo 4S 30C 3300mAh with Jeff Wohlt's flex shafts and collets on the motors. Average speed ~ 55mph. Very solid, reliable.

I bought 2 2860 leopards w/3400 kv and ran it with 4s and venom 36mm (red) 3 blade props with no heating up problems. I also have 120a esc's. The boat did 57.8mph (gps)

Way to much rpm tho. So stay with the lower kv's. I ran the same prop set up on 3s 45/90c batts and it did 47.7mph. I am staying with 3s and propping ^ to achive the same mph as 4s.
The boat sits in the water good too. 4s it sits way down in the rear.
Be carefull at 57mph it's real EASY to flip it! Ask me or my sons for that matter how I know.
