Hey, I have seen a lot of posts for prop recommendations for the spartan running Lipos, but I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for the stock 7-cell 8.4v 3000mah NIMH batteries. I know lipos would make it much faster, but I am trying to see what I can do before that point. I've got it consistently running 32 mph with Stock 540xl motor & VXL-6 ESC after some tuning. Also, when I do decide to jump to LIPOs, any recommendations. I would like atleast 5-6 min run time, and top speed, preferably w/o blowing up. Thanks

I figured that some would doubt it. To be honest, I didn't expect it either. Most people seem to be getting low to mid 20's on Nimh. I just got the boat a few weeks ago and first time out I got 24.9. After that, I shaved the turn fins, adjusted the strut, and adjusted the trim tabs, and have hit between 32.0 and 32.5 almost every run since. I have used multiple GPSs to validate my results. I'll have to get some pics or video next run.Comment

Most reports I've seen from those running the stock Nimh's is that the batteries run extremely hot, meaning the amp draw is already more than what would optimal.
For that reason I wouldn't suggest any prop larger diameter or higher pitch than an Octura X442, which is essentially a metal replacement for the stock plastic prop.
Purchase a couple of 2S lipos with high C rating if you are wanting a speed / performance boost.

Spartan isn't much fun on 4s. 5s is the sweet spot without problems. The boat has to be trimmed perfectly to really run it on 6s at speed. I wouldn't waste time on nimh. Get two 3s lipos and run them in parallel. Once you get familiar with the boat try them In a series.Comment

That boat shouldnt be that slow on 14 cells which when fully charged will peak at about 9.8-10 volts each pack...............close to 20 volts or 5s equivalent. I realize there will be more voltage sag with the nimhs which can muster in the 40 amp range at best, but it should run in the mid thirties. A buddy of mine has one and his performed in that range. GPS it.NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE:http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=
