    Traxxas connectors or EC5?

Hey, guys. I am planning on using a Leopard 4082 1600kv motor, Seaking 180A ESC, 6s 8400mah 40c lipo, dual pickup rudder, 0.078" piano drive wire, and around an M445 prop. I would like to be able to use Traxxas connectors because I also have an XO-1 that uses them, and I want to be able to use the same lipos for both my Spartan and my XO-1. I have read mixed reviews about Traxxas connectors with the Spartan on 6s. I know Dag-nabit said that Traxxas connectors should probably be fine, but others have said that they get pretty hot, and could melt, decrease performance, pop solder joints, etc. I don't want to use Traxxas connectors if they won't hold up on my setup, but I would prefer them for convenience. Otherwise, it looks like EC5 connectors would probably be a safe alternative if Traxxas connectors will not work.

So, what do you guys think? Will I be alright with Traxxas connectors on my setup, or should I probably go EC5, and why?

Thx in advance for all responses!

I would use 5.5 bullets minimum with that motor. Why? It has more contact area for the current to flow through. Less resistance, less heat, better performance. What current do you think you will draw with the 4082 and what are the Traxxas connectors rated at?? The bottom line is , if you want to run a motor with the power of the 4082, you're going to have to make sure the rest of the set up is up to the task. No shortcuts.

The difficulty with Traxxas connectors is you can't find any consistent amp ratings for them online, or at least, I can't find them.

I have seen suggested ratings on them anywhere from 40 - 150 amps. this could be one reviewer identifying continuous amp draw, and another identifying max burst amp draw, but there is no way to be certain.

Looking a different sites that list amp ratings for connectors, EC5 are most often rated for 120 amps continuous, and sometimes listed for as much 150 continuous.

All I can tell you is I run EC5 connectors on pretty much an identical setup to the one you are doing, and they are working fine. As would pretty much any 5mm or larger bullet style connector.

I would suggest you try running the Traxxas plugs first. That way you only have to purchase a few plugs and you are up and running. If you find they are running too hot, then you can decide what connector you want to upgrade to, and take on the task/cost of standardizing the connectors on all your r/c's.

PS. Keep your wire lengths as short as practical, but still allow a full range of battery positions in the trays. Don't cut the wires on the motor, if you want to shorten the wiring between the motor and ESC, trim the wires on the ESC.
