I have spent all winter upgrading my Spartan, Water jacket, dual water pickup rudder, and dual water out put. New flex cables, and strut, extra trim tabs and adjusters. I always clean and grease the flex cable after each run. I run 4's and 6's, which I have spent a lot of money on, with x442, x642, and 42x55 aquacraft props. My Castle ESC melted. I do more then my friends, who run right out of the box. It is costing me alot of time and money, and disappointment. Do I ask too much? Any suggestions, besides getting rid of my spartan?

Sorry to hear about your frustrations. Most of us that have this boat at some point have had the same issues and have also spent good amounts of $$ to try to fix these issues. There are tons of You Tube videos that explain how to remedy these issues yet... I'm not sure if it will help with your current situation. I like My Spartan but really need to keep the boat in check each time I run it. At current I run 6s but have just ordred 4s 60-100c lipos and will convert to EC5 connectors (run these on my 50 size electric planes and love them). I always run ice water through the cooling lines before I run...water temp in my part of the world is really warm so anything I can do, I will try. I also try to keep speed in check at all times...quick full speed passes every now and then but I dont peg it the entire time on the water. I'm sure others will comment but we have been there so we can relate. I hope Traxxas and Castle figure out what can be done to help you out. -
What is your exact issue or need?? You just need a new speedo i guess. What else is wrong with it?NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE:http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=

What prop are you running with which batteries.
The X642 on 6S will definitely put too much load on the stock ESC. That said, the stock Castle ESC is better than the original VXL units, but there are still many reports of failed ESC's after only a few runs, even on fully stock setups. These failures are more prevalent on 6S, but there are reports of failures even on 4S.
Traxxas and Castle have been good about warranty replacements on failed components, so call them to see what they are willing to do for you. I know it doesn't fully compensate for the disappointment of having your boat out of commission, but it's a starting point at least.

Thanks for the info Kevin. Will get a hold of Traxxas to see if they can
replace the ESC. I will not run X642. Only X442 or smaller. Thanks again. I
always enjoy your comments on OSE.Comment

OK I am a little out of shape for a speedo. Working on a beer belly, when not working on my boat.Comment

I'm from Canada also, I have never bothered with warranty claims because of the shipping costs/delays across the border, but give them a call to see what they say. I tend to be a bit impatient so just upgraded electronics from the get go and carried on.

Thanks Kevin. Yes that is the problem with ordering from the U.S. if you
live in Canada. It takes more time, and the costs are higher, shipping costs
and customs. I might have to go for the Seaking 180A ESC. Do you think this
would be a good choice with the stock motor, or should I buy the motor,
Leopard LBP4082-B/2Y 1600 as well. Thanking you now Kevin, Al.Comment

I run the turnigy/seaking 180 esc's in both my Spartans.
One is set up with the leopard 4082 1600kv and it has proven very reliable on 6s (so far, touch wood)
The other I'm running a castle creations 1515 2200kv motor on 5s.
So I think the stock 1800 kv motor would work fine with the 180 esc. So your choice really whether you want to spring the extra bucks for a new motor.
Kevin
PS if you upgrade to the 4082 1600 you are eventually going to want to try to turn a larger prop. To avoid problems with the flex cable, consider upgrading to either a .187 flex cable or a .078 wire drive before pushing larger props.Comment
